6TH ANNUAL RAMBLE 5K DRAWING NEAR Doctors & Lawyers for Kids, a medical-legal partnership designed to improve overall health for low-income children and families, is once again hosting its annual Ramble 5K Fun Run/Fitness Walk in Beckley Creek Park at the Parklands of Floyd Fork. The 6th annual fun run/fitness walk will take place Saturday, August 15 with registration beginning at 8 a.m. and the race following at 9 a.m. There will also be food, games and inflatables for children. HEROIN EVENT WILL BRING CITY LEADERS TOGETHER The Healing Place will host “Heroin: About Face, Reversing an Epidemic,” a symposium designed to encourage discussion of the growing drug issue in our community, on Wednesday, October 28 at the Louisville Marriott East. Entry into the race is $25 per person and $15 for students before August 12. After that date, entry is $40 per person and $20 for students. Groups of four or more who register together get a $5 discount per person. Children 12 and under are free with an adult participant. Featuring special guest speaker and former Miss USA Tara Conner, the event will include topics such as: The Disease of Addiction, The Family Impact, Addiction and Adolescents, Introduction to a 12-Step Meeting and a Community Impact Panel. Other speakers include Dr. Greg Jones, Attorney Mike O’Connell, social worker and counselor Geoff Wilson as well as representatives from the law enforcement and corrections who will discuss the debilitating community impact of heroin’s presence. Doctors & Lawyers for Kids will also be hosting a fundraiser at The Village Anchor on Sunday, August 2 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Up to 10 percent of the restaurant’s sales during that time will go to DLK. Simply having dinner at the restaurant that night can make a difference in addressing the legal needs that affect the health and well-being of indigent children.
