KMA ANNUAL MEETING IS FAST APPROACHING GLMS RESOLUTIONS FOR KMA CONSIDERATION At this year’s KMA Annual Meeting, the GLMS Caucus and House of Delegates meetings will take place on Sunday, unlike years past which typically fell on a Tuesday. The GLMS has submitted eight resolutions for KMA consideration covering a wide range of topics. The resolutions are as follows: Save the date! The 165th KMA Annual Meeting is arriving sooner than ever. This year’s convention of physicians from across the state will take place August 28-31 at the Hyatt Regency Louisville. The theme of this year’s Annual Meeting is “Foundation for the Future: Promoting Physician Leadership,” and several speakers and events throughout the weekend will reflect this topic. For example, AMA President Steven Stack, MD, will address medical students and residents in a town hall format from 5-6 p.m. on Friday, August 28. Practicing physicians are encouraged to attend but Dr. Stack will be asking medical students and residents to guide the dialog. KMA is also looking for physicians to participate in the “Meet a Mentor” reception where medical students and residents will have the opportunity to learn from an individual physician mentor. If you’re interested in participating as a physician mentor, please visit kma2015annualmeeting.eventbrite.com to register. As part of the Annual Meeting, the KMA will host a Leadership Academy throughout the day on Saturday, August 29. The all-day CME symposium is designed to provide physicians with strategies to: yy Achieve accurate and meaningful public comparisons on Physician Compare and Hospital Compare government-run websites. yy Use new community health data to improve the health of communities in Kentucky. yy Become a leader in the transition of health care delivery. yy Improve public health at the local level. The event, sponsored by the Kentucky Foundation for Medical Care through a grant awarded by The Physicians Foundation, will also feature several guest speakers including Dr. Kevin Pho, the founder and editor of KevinMD.com, and Dr. Richard Wild, the CMO of Atlanta Regional Office Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. GLMS NEWS JULY 2015 1) That the KMA urge the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services to reinstate the “Prescriber Only” status for physicians and other providers throughout the Kentucky Medicaid program. 2) That the KMA assist primary care physicians who provide mental health care by studying possible solutions to better equip them for patient care as well as more efficient means of communication between providers to facilitate optimal care. 3) That the KMA amend a by-laws limitation on AMA delegates allowing a replacement representative in certain circumstances. If a member of a component society is elected to the office of Speaker or Vice-Speaker, it deprives the KMA’s component medical society of that delegate’s representation. 4) That the KMA explore ways for persons in need of medication-based addiction treatment, such as Suboxone, may have access provided to them, and that the KMA work to expand mental health and addiction treatment in all forms of drug abuse. 5) That the KMA support legislation which requires coverage for Abuse Deterrent Opioid products on a basis equal to that of non-ADOs including cost sharing and utilization requir ements and that the KMA encourage Kentucky physicians to become educated in the use of ADO products. 6) That the KMA encourage and actively promote communities to have free events promoting healthful lifestyles. 7) That the KMA actively promote activities which support colorectal cancer screening and join organizations committing to the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable “80% by 2018” goal. 8) That the KMA work towards passage of legislation requiring the testing of vision at the time of driver’s license renewal in Kentucky. 3
