2015 GLMS ELECTION PRESIDENT-ELECT HOW TO CAST CANDIDATE YOUR VOTE John L. Roberts, MD, is a native of Louisville. He received his medical degree from the School of Medicine of the University of Louisville and completed his Pediatric Residency, Chief Residency and Neonatology Fellowship at the Saint Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Dr. Roberts joined the U of L Pediatric faculty in 1983 and served as the Pediatric Residency Program Director from 1985 to 2008. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is board certified in Pediatrics and in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. In 1998, Dr. Roberts was named Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education of the School of Medicine and currently serves as the Senior Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Medical Education at the School of Medicine. Dr. Roberts, or “John”, has been a member of the Greater Louisville Medical Society since 1983 and has held the following positions in the organization: Second Vice-President, Member at Large of the Board of Governors, and is currently the Treasurer. GLMS conducts the year’s election entirely online for the offices listed on the cover as well as KMA delegates. Please note that all candidates are unopposed except for the 2015 Nominating Committee, where on 20 will be selected. It is important for GLMS members to vote and choose Nominating Committee members who they believe will represent the various sectors of the medical society’s membership, since the committee will develop next year’s slate of candidates. Active, life, military and in-training members are eligible to vote. Voting will close on Monday, April 6. If GLMS has your email address on file, you will receive instructions via email. After clicking on the link that will take you to the Official Ballot, you will need to enter your member ID number to cast your vote. Your member ID is located next to your name in the GLMS Annual Pictorial Roster. Members can vote only one time. John is a member of the American Medical Association and serves on the Governing Council of the AMA’s Section on Medical Schools. He is a member of Kentucky Medical Association and is the Chairman of the KMA Continuing Medical Education Committee. He also is the Chairman of the CME committee of Norton Healthcare. MEMBERSHIP DUES REMINDER In addition to Neonatology, John has devoted his career to the education of the physician along the continuum from undergraduate to continuing medical education. For his work in education, he has been recognized as the recipient of the 2006 Doctor’s Ball Excellence in Education Award, as a Finalist for the 2013 Medistar A.O. Sullivan Award for Excellence in Education and as recipient of the 2014 Dean’s Award for Distinguished Educator at the School of Medicine. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. John’s other interests include medical history (he is the President of the Innominate Society, Louisville’s Medical History Society) and International Medical Missions (he has trained neonatologists in Romania, Moldova and Vietnam). Dr. Roberts is married to Dr. Janet Smith, a cardiologist, and they have five successful children.
