P&A TEAM ADVANCING IN FRANKFORT NEW ADVOCACY TOOLS AVAILABLE The GLMS Policy and Advocacy Team led by Mary Helen Davis, MD, and Vice-Chair Frank Burns, MD, is off to a busy start to make as much of an impact as possible during the short legislative session beginning this month. We welcome our physician members to become actively involved in the legislative process. To assist you, GLMS has developed on-the-go digital Advocacy Tools for 2015: 1. GLMS Advocacy Guide - http://joom.ag/GmDb 2. GLMS Legislative Priorities - http://joom.ag/rMEb The Advocacy Guide provides contact information and bios on all area legislators plus Senate/House Leadership. The Legislative Priorities document provides background and recommendations for our current six major issues. 5. Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment (MOST) 6. Expert Witness for Medical Malpractice To kick off the legislative year, GLMS will host a reception at the U of L Shelby Campus on Thursday, January 22. The deadline for reservation has already passed but there are still several ways for interested physicians to take a more active role in state government advocacy. For example, the Kentucky Medical Association is also hosting KMA Physicians’ Day at the Capitol Building on February 18, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please make plans to attend and watch for legislative updates which may arrive suddenly. In summary, the six issues most important to the GLMS Policy and Advocacy Team during the 2015 legislative session are as follows: 1. Fair Contracting Practices by Health Plans 2. Smoke Free Kentucky 3. Medical Review Panels 4. The Good Samaritan Law http://joom.ag/GmDb http://joom.ag/rMEb MedicaL Society Professional Services A Greater Louisville Medical Society Company LEAVE THE WORRIES TO US Call GLMS for Your Staffing Needs CLERICAL | CLINICAL | MANAGEMENT | ALLIED HEALTH WE PROVIDE: » Direct placement » Temporary placement » Temp to hire GLMS NEWS JANUARY 2015 WE GUARANTEE: » » » » » Criminal background checks Reference checks Credit checks Drug screening Skills testing Serving greater Louisville and southern Indiana with a 60-year track record of quality and dedication.
