SPECIALTY SPEED NETWORKING HELPS
STUDENTS PICK PATH
Twelve GLMS physicians visited The Old Medical School Building
Wednesday, January 14, to sit down with medical students and
discuss all aspects of the physician specialties they may choose
to pursue.
The sixth annual Specialty Speed Networking event, hosted by
GLMS, allowed small groups of first- and second-year medical students the opportunity to pick the brains of physicians who were
once students themselves.
The groups of students rotated every eight minutes, allowing brief
visits with physicians from a wide variety of specialties as different
as Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics. Both students and doctors
said they found the experience worthwhile.
Robert Couch, MD, MBA, introduced the event and spoke about
the impact the event could have for everyone involved. “The physicians who participate in this say it really energizes them in their
practice. It reminds them why they wanted to be a physician in the
first place.”
GLMS Membership Coordinator Jennifer Howard collaborated to
set up the event with University of Louisville Class Representative
Melinda Ruberg who helped get the word out to students interested in sitting down with experienced physicians.
Thank you to this year’s physician volunteers for giving of their
