In April 2026, XPeng also announced plans to build an EV assembly plant, though no details of a location have been announced yet.
Indonesia
Due to its abundant nickel reserves, Indonesia is a prime location for EV battery manufacturers. Hyundai and LG are two of many companies that chose the archipelago as the location for its biggest battery factory yet. The agreement was first announced in 2021 and included the LG Energy Consortium, Hyundai, and Indonesia.
The joint venture sought out to improve Indonesia’ s battery supply chain through the Indonesia Grand Package, a 2020 government project aimed to develop the country’ s EV battery ecosystem and network through government partnerships.
LG eventually left the Indonesia Grand Project in 2025 after“ considering market conditions and the investment environment.” Despite this, LG remained as an entity for its joint plant with Hyundai.
The plant, known as the Hyundai LG Indonesia( HLI) Green Power Facility, was built in Karawang, West Java. It began operations in 2024 and has the annual production capacity of 10GWh battery cells. The plant is 320,000 square meters and will house operations that cover the entire lifespan of an EV battery.
In early April 2026, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Indonesia’ s first electric commercial vehicle plant in Central Java. The plant is a project of PT VKTR Sakti Industries, a distributor and manufacturer of electric commercial vehicles. The President expressed aspirations for VKTR to become recognised as a“ national champion” of Indonesia in the global automotive sector.
