Foton Amplifies Australian EV Truck Leadership with New Product Assault

WORDS BY FOTON MOBILITY DISTRIBUTION

Building on its market-leading position in Australian EV truck sales for the past 3 years, Foton Mobility Distribution( FMD) is doubling down on its commitment to zeroemission transport. The company will expand the EV truck lineup with the introduction of an all-new 8.5-tonne variant.

FMD, the exclusive distributor for all Foton zero-emission trucks and buses in Australia, has already celebrated significant successes. This includes a recent order for 126 Foton EV city buses for Transport for NSW( TfNSW). Additionally, in collaboration with Metronet, Holcim Concrete is currently operating a 32-tonne Foton EV Concrete Agitator truck on the Byford Rail Extension Project— demonstrating the potential for emissions reduction, noise reduction, and sustainable change.
Light Duty Foton EV Trucks
The Foton T5 EV truck has proven to be a significant success for FMD, boasting a customer base that includes major Australian corporations such as Woolworths, Bunnings, and Ausgrid.“ We had the 4.5-tonne GVM, which a lot of companies haven’ t been able to bring here, and that’ s the biggest segment of the light truck market,” said CEO and Founder, Neil Wang.
“ You can also put a tipper body on and upgrade it to six tonnes, you can have a Pantech or a refrigerator body, even an alloy tray, making it very versatile. It can also tow 3.5 tonnes, with a GCM of eight tonnes. So, we had a car-licence truck, out of the box, for the last-mile companies in Australia.”
The last-mile delivery sector, dominated by major retailers handling their own urban freight, has been a key target for Foton.
Woolworths, now the largest last-mile delivery operator in Australia, aims to transition 100 % of its home delivery trucks to electric by 2030, making the Foton T5 an ideal fit.
Range Expansion
Of the 700,000 vehicles that Foton produces annually, over 103,000 built last year were‘ new energy commercial vehicles. The manufacturer plans to sell 200,000 new energy vehicles per annum by 2030.“ This means Australia can cherry pick suitable models from the evolving lineup of new energy options,” according to Mr. Wang, indicating FMD’ s strategic approach.
