YOUR NEW BMW , 007
In this period of the Bond franchise , all three of Brosnan ’ s Bond films used a BMW as 007 ’ s primary vehicle . Less about design and more about sport , the BMW 750iL is touted by Bond fans to be the most agile of the Brosnan era ’ s cars and sadly , the least liked .
Though not unusual for a man of the Bond franchise to drive a luxury car , the BMW 750iL faced some pushback for not being as glamorously designed as the other featured BMWs . Marked by continuous product placement , it ’ s no surprise this Bond film featured BMW ’ s flagship car at the time .
Behind the scenes documentation of the modified 750iL shows us that its functioning steering wheel was installed behind the driver ’ s seat , operated by a stunt driver . Its gas pedals are extended towards the back as well , allowing the stunt driver to accelerate and brake from a distance .
Its combat features such as the compartment for tire tacks , missile launchers , and wire-cutters are completely real but not at all dangerous or functional .
TECH THAT REFLECTS
While we ’ ve only scratched the surface , these 4 cars represent society ’ s outlook on tech in the periods they were conceived in . Which begs the question , which recent fictional futuristic car represents our outlook today ? Could it be the 2022 movie Batmobile or Shuri ’ s ride from Wakanda Forever ? Or could it be something eco-friendly and less flashy ?
