In this issue , we ’ re examining how Australia is Embracing the Future of Electric Mobility . We ’ ll explore the collective actions reflecting a concerted effort to drive the transition towards sustainable transportation across Australia .
Electric Vehicle uptake continues to grow this year . As of March 2024 , there have been 180,000 EVs on our roads according to the Electric Vehicle Council . Meanwhile , 812 charging stations in place across Australia . Of this , about 130 are offering ultrafast charging , supporting vehicle charging at 100kW or above .
On the policy side , several key initiatives are being implemented on a National and State level . The Australian Federal Government launched the National Electric Vehicle Strategy in April 2023 , aiming to increase EV adoption nationwide . Key initiatives included introducing a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard and expanding the EV charging network with a $ 39.3 million investment .
The Federal Government has prepared draft legislation for its New Vehicle Efficiency Standard ( NVES ) which will likely start on January 1 st , 2025 , although credits and penalties are unlikely to commence before July 1 st , 2025 . The new laws aim at disincentivising the use of high-polluting cars and hastening the importation of cleaner vehicles .
State-level efforts , such as those in the ACT , NSW , Queensland , SA , Tasmania , VIC , and WA , focus on incentives for EV adoption , infrastructure development , and transitioning public transport fleets to electric vehicles .
Complementing these changes , suppliers , OEMs , and fleet operators are also doing their part in creating a greener and cleaner future for mobility .
Within the pages of this e-magazine , you ’ ll find stories that explore the latest technological advancements in electric vehicle components and systems ; highlight innovative solutions that contribute to the sustainability and efficiency of electric transportation ; provide insights into the role of suppliers in shaping the electric vehicle industry ; and showcase success stories and best practices for a successful EV fleet transition .
