Simply , the speed and amount of data being captured means we now have many more ways to optimise . Instead of retrospective corrective actions , we can start proactively administrating beyond the horizon with clarity .
For example , if you know that a particular part of a vehicle , like tyres , needs servicing , rotation , or replacement at a specific interval , you can look at the vehicle ’ s historical and scheduled utilisation to plan when and where that replacement can best occur .
We are also seeing technology reach into the cabin to directly empower drivers with their own driving data , leveraging gamification to proactively encourage safer driving behaviours through immediate recognition and feedback . This ensures that any potentially hazardous actions can be addressed as they happen instead of days or weeks later .
Webfleet has also been exploring the technological capabilities of our telematics well beyond the vehicle – it turns out that telematics data can genuinely help to improve the world around us . One of my favourite advancements comes from our Data Solutions team with their Road Condition monitoring and reporting . By anonymising the data provided by any commercial vehicle equipped with a Webfleet
CAM50 dashcam , they leverage AI to monitor footage and detect hazards or deterioration of road surfaces — something of great benefit to private road operators and municipalities worldwide .
Recently , Webfleet was type-approved by Transport Certification Australia , meaning that our telematics devices can improve road access for heavy vehicles , as governed by the National Telematics Framework . Did you know that bridges have different weight calculations for vehicles connected with certified telematics ? Simply because more data means calculations are more accurate and can be done with greater confidence . On the surface , this is such a small thing , but it can be the difference in whether a vehicle can use a bridge or not .
A lot has changed very quickly in the past 25 years , and we are witnessing firsthand how fleet and vehicle management solutions continue to evolve and be used in new ways to better manage vehicles , improve safety on our roads , and , perhaps unsurprisingly , make our lives easier .
