FLEETDRIVE n 21
Of all the workplace challenges faced during COVID , and there were many , keeping connected with colleagues was the hardest .
WORDS BY PAUL SOR
In fleet , yes we had issues with :
• Lack of new vehicle stock – meaning vehicles were older than policy , affecting warranty costs , and upgrades to latest safety equipment and transitioning to a stronger green fleet .
• Servicing vehicles to schedule – as some mechanics and dealers were closed , or staff were locked down and could not take the car in for a service , or Pink slips in NSW impacting on re-registration of vehicles .
• Scurry to find cleaners to sanitise Covid infection without having contact with infected vehicle and sites that the cars were left . i . e Kays to open the vehicle became a logistic conundrum .
• Critical suppliers closed – so even when we did get new stock some cars could not be delivered
• Completing FBT logs – do we complete new logs due to a substantial change in use ( covid impacts ) and then again as we start to come back to work ?
• Accident repairs – lack of parts , lack of hire vehicles , delays in assessors attending site
However Much harder was ensuring our people were all connected and mentally safe . At Red Cross we deal with vulnerable people every day , and if we are not on the front line , we are supporting those who are . So a degree of resilience is needed everyday to cope with people who are regularly emotionally stressed and facing difficulties that seem insurmountable .
