Executive Summary Mace Hartley Executive Director
Welcome to AfMA ’ s 32nd edition of FleetDrive where we once again share stories from different sectors of the fleet and automotive industries and provide updates on our upcoming events and initiatives for 2022 .
Looking back at the past year , we ’ ve seen fleet operators conquer challenges through these uncertain times . But through an exhibition of inspirational leadership in a pandemic year , many have not just survived but also thrived .
During 2021 AfMA delivered several webinars in which over 1,000 people participated in . Perhaps our most influential was a series of personal development workshops focused on Emotional Intelligence . Hosted by Lisa Panarello from Careers Advance in New York , this series was about assisting people to be the best version of themselves .
Given the huge success of these personal development sessions , AfMA is planning to deliver several of them throughout 2022 and is currently developing the topics and timetables . Importantly , these sessions are available to anyone and everyone within your organisation , personal friends , or family . In fact , I encourage you to share the schedule of sessions with your Learning & Development Managers who can incorporate them into your organisation training plan for 2022 . As will 2021 these sessions are free !
There is no doubt in my mind that collaboration , unity , and actions of suppliers , fleet operators and drivers have resulted in victories we can all celebrate .
On that note , in this issue we ’ ll be looking back at the year that passed and reflecting on how organisations have bent and flexed to keep everyone supported .
Paul Sor ( Red Cross ) will be talking about how even the littlest of things can make for a better work life for his colleagues , for him , and for his stakeholders ( Keeping connected in 2020 and 2021 ).
Jerome Carslake ( NRSPP ) will share with us how people have used the challenges of the year as a way to foster workplace road safety habits and build a safe driving culture ( Silver Lining : Never Waste A Crisis ).
Meanwhile , Anby Alcomendas will be taking us through a list of leadership traits that made it possible for fleet operators to thrive in these challenging times ( Effective Fleet Leadership Skills Amid a Global Pandemic ).
As we head towards a new year , don ’ t forget ongoing learning and development is crucial for current and future leaders in the fleet and automotive industries . We are now seeking people who wish to join Swinburne ’ s Diploma of Leadership and Management for 2022 – delivered entirely online and open to everyone . Remember this Diploma has been contextualised for the fleet and automotive sectors so its fit-for-purpose !
