Amajority of fleet managers will be contemplating the End of Financial Year ( EOFY ) period and realising that they ’ ve just experienced a year like no other , one which changed the strategic landscape for future fleet planning .

While the number of vehicles owned by corporate fleets continues to increase – up 11 % to 3.8 million in 2020 – the challenges and the pressures to effectively manage the fleet in a challenging business environment are also ramping up .
Recent ACA research identified the three top priorities for fleet managers in 2021 , as : more efficient asset utilisation , improved customer service , and compliance with COVID-19 safety requirements .
Addressing these priorities requires a critical focus on vehicle data to guide the fleet optimisation process , hence the increasing demand for telematics suppliers and their solutions . The telematics services industry has seen an increased uptake since 2018 .
However , despite the increase in telematics adaption , the ACA research suggests that many fleet managers find their suppliers falling short of delivering value .
While some fleet managers were unsatisfied about the user experience and the cost of telematics solutions in the market , many remained unconvinced by the value proposition . There were also concerns on issues of privacy , security and trust .
With the EOFY upon us , this period is an excellent opportunity for fleet managers to revisit their fleet strategies and clearly articulate what they want from their suppliers in the future .
Going through this process can help clarify a fleet ’ s approach to using their telematics solutions , the service support offered , and how easy it is to integrate the solution with their existing tech stack .
