HUGE MILESTONE CHEAPER TO RUN EV PUSH
Nissan has passed a significant milestone , with its e-POWER electrified powertrain surpassing 500,000 units .
e-POWER first debuted in Japan on the Note compact car in November 2016 . Since then , the Note e-POWER model has been very well received by customers with the Note claiming the best-selling car in Japan title in 2018 .
In addition to powerful and responsive acceleration , e-POWER models have been rated highly for driving performance and for features such as the unique ability to accelerate and decelerate just by using the accelerator pedal .
In February 2021 , the all-new Nissan Qashqai recently debuted in the European market with an e-POWER model announced – marking the first offering of e-POWER in the continent .
Nissan has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050 . As part of this project Nissan hopes that every new vehicle in key markets will be electrified by the early 2030s .
Committed to operating a zero emission fleet by 2025 , facilities management and professional services company Mitie has found its 1,000- plus electric cars and vans are already more cost effective than petrol or diesel vehicles .
The secret to their success ? Understanding where company cars and vans ‘ sleep ’ and making your solution based around that key criteria .
Mitie plans to have 1,600 charge points installed at homes by the end of this year , accounting for 85 per cent of its charging , but has only put in 100 workplace chargers . The company has advised other fleets that are starting to adopt EVs to consider the at-home solution instead – so long as employees are appropriately reimbursed for all electricity costs incurred .
For Mitie , the changes are already returning a huge economic saving .
“ If you do a proper whole life cost analysis of your fleet , if you ’ re running LCVs and cars and it will come out cheaper to run pure electric today ,” said Simon King , the company ’ s director of sustainability and social value .
Stellantis is shifting up a gear in its electrification efforts , hoping to hit 400,000 electrified vehicles by the end of this year .
The maker of Peugeot , Fiat , Jeep and Citroën models has been expanding their range with various electric and plug-in-hybrid models over the past two years in a bid to reach a wider customer base .
At the first annual meeting of Stellantis , Chief Executive Officer Carlos Tavares said the company hoped to sell three times as many plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles this year compared to 2020 .
Stellantis plans to introduce electrified versions of nearly all its models in Europe by 2025 . Their share of sales in the region is predicted to rise to 38 per cent that year and to about 70 per cent by 2030 .
“ Please recognize that we are now accelerating this electrification move , and please recognize that we are perfectly on time and ready to deliver on the limited emissions or zero emissions mobility expectations of the markets in which we operate ,” Tavares said .
