The ANCAP website (ancap.com.au) is the best
resource. Here, you can work through all of our
current ratings as well as those for superseded
models. You can also download the ANCAP
SAFETY app. The app offers the ability to receive
push notifications, so as soon as we publish
a rating, you’ll be the first to know. We also
encourage you to pick up the phone and speak
with us. If you have any questions, we’re always
happy to help.
Beyond this, we’re also available to come and
meet with you. The best way to learn is through
face-to-face engagement, and we’re happy
to provide detailed briefings and vehicle safety
demonstrations of emerging vehicle safety
technologies to fleet buyers, fleet operators and
also your general staff about the importance
of vehicle safety and the ANCAP safety rating
process. Not only do we need to be mindful of
vehicle safety while on the job as employees, we
must also prioritise safety when it comes to our
private vehicles. If we can impart some of our
knowledge on to your employees, they too will
become advocates for the importance of being
in the safest vehicles possible while at work and
play.
Are there any other general challenges and
obstacles that ANCAP is facing moving
forward? What is the focus for 2020 and
beyond?
One of our strengths is our ability to influence
manufacturers to design, build and sell 5-star
cars. Surprisingly, that’s also one of our
weaknesses. Vehicle brands are doing very well
in keeping up with our increasing requirements
for 5-stars and, of course, from an ANCAP
perspective and a consumer perspective, this
is excellent. But for some, it also means that
complacency can creep in with the view that “all
new cars are now safe”. Ongoing awareness and
education about new vehicle safety features and
technologies and building consumer confidence,
particularly in those new automated systems, is a
key focus for ANCAP going forward.
