FLAVOR TREE WALMART CHERRY FEB 19 2019 FLAVOR TREE WALMART 2019 | Page 3
With two forty-acre blocks of standard Rainier cherries, additional historical pollinator standard
Rainier cherries, and multiple single variety blocks of Royal Rainier cherries. Our 70,000-carton offering
of Rainier cherries equates to about one-third of the state’s Rainier crop.
Since most of our production is in the Central and Southern San Joaquin Valley, we had a
tendency to finish earlier than other packers. In order to capitalize on our packing equipment and to
offer our customers a fuller program, we have extended our season by planting late season cultivars in
an early district. Varieties such as Regina, Skeena and Lapins have helped us have good volume during
the timeframe when then northern, more traditional California production areas are in full swing. We
also are pleased to offer Stockton/Lodi cherries for a high-quality small grower/packer in the Stockton
area, to supplement our offerings. The Stockton factory is fully GFSI certified and listed on our RetailLink
portal for full transparency to Walmart for food safety issues.
In 2018, we installed our first Unitec sorting equipment to supplement our two pre-existing
2004 optical sorting lines. Six of our lanes include near infrared technology to determining soluble solids
(brix).
We appreciate the ability to offer Walmart a wide array of cherry items, including a substantial
amount of Rainier cherries as well as a large organic offering. We are constantly improving our cherry
lines, and have great success with Walmart in offering our innovations. A standout success with
Walmart has been with our cherry hybrid fruit (currently handled by the stonefruit specialty team,) as
Walmart has become our largest customer of this item.
Our newest venture consists of test production in earlier production areas to offer Springtime
cherries at a reasonable cost in the future.
