Golden Crowned Heron, Chicken Hawk, Ruby Throaded Hummingbird, Horned Owl, Snowy Egret, Black Legged Stilt, Pileated Woodpecker, and Texas Green Jay are all known as avian residents of the state Frank X Tolbert 2 calls home. They are birds who sometimes fly under our radar, co-existing in the woods, swamps, bays, and backyards. Tolbert has created these birds as color etchings in the tradition of Audubon, yet using his unique style salted with a keen sense of observation and curiosity combined with characteristic wit and humor. The Texas Bird Suite consists of eight images, each 22x30 inch intaglio etching is printed on 28x37 inch Rives BFK paper in editions of 24. Multiple etching plates were used to create the images in the colorful images in the painterly fashion that Frank employs.
