i)vision The Spectacle Company A Canadian company, that has been family owned and operated since 1989. The story told by iVision President, Scott Catton. In 1989 my Dad opened a new retail optical concept in London called Wholesale Vision. It was the first “True 2 for 1” optical store in Ontario, and it was one of the first to incorporate a full service lens manufacturing facility on-site. The concept proved to be a hit with Londoners, and within just a few years we expanded to include a store in Waterloo. Both of those original stores are still in operation today. The expansion continued with more stores in London, as well as Guelph, Burlington and Oakville. With the continued expansion and the natural evolution of the business, the name Wholesale Vision just didn’t fit anymore. So in the year 2000, we changed our name from Wholesale Vision to iVision. It was a fresh name that more accurately reflected our upmarket service, quality name brand product offering, and the added value of the True 2 for 1. I feel like I was born into the optical business. I started working for my Dad when I was 15 years old, first in the Lab, learning the manufacturing process. I then moved into various retail positions within the stores, I loved working with customers and to this day, I still enjoy helping someone find the perfect pair of glasses! I started working at the head office in 1997 as the Director of Marketing. When my Dad retired in 2006 I was promoted to President, and then in 2010 I purchased the business. We are a second generation business, built from the ground up with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. We are proud to be a family run Canadian optical chain, and are committed to working hard to earn the trust of each and every one of our customers. n Visit our locations at: Masonville Place White Oaks Mall Westmount Shopping Centre Wellington Southdale Plaza and The Spectacle Company (Hyde Park Road and Oxford) VOLUME 1 - ISSUE 2 | yourBusiness Online 43
