Big Trout Bonanza Continues

BURSON - Lake Amador has produced an impressive list of huge cutbow and rainbow trout caught by shore and boat anglers over the past few weeks . Big fish honors got to Zine , who caught a trout weighing 18.10 lbs . on a Rapala by the Jackson Creek inlet . “ He came , he saw , he caught and conquered ! The bite is on !” noted Elizabeth Lockhart at the Lake Amador Resort . Efren Deanda came up from San Jose and caught a huge male cutbow weighing 15.88 pounds while trolling a Rapala near the Mt . Springs point . David Merek out of Lodi landed a tank of a cutbow weighing 16.2 pounds on a Berkeley Flicker Minnow and 8 lb . test line . “ It had to be one heck of a fight ,” said Lockhart . Brian McClendon hooked into a trophy trout of a lifetime weighing in at 13.48 lbs . He was trolling a Speedy Shiner on the lake . Finally , Robbie Dunham of Koke Machine and his client had a great day trolling at Amador .. They landed 9 cutbows in the 3-5 lb . range and even a big bass that was released . During the latest trout plant , 1000 lb . s of cutbows were stocked . “ Half were released at the blue fishing dock , while the other half were released on the north shoreline near the Dam . These fish were between 3-5 lbs .,” stated Lockhart . “ Surface temperatures are on the rise and have breached the 60 mark in most areas ,” noted Lockhart . “ We did find 59.9 on the north shore , so I would imagine the colder the better . Rental Boaters Bag Limits of Trout , Stripers

LIVERMORE - Anglers fishing from rental boats are landing limits of rainbow trout , while shore anglers are having a tough time , reported Ray at the Los Vaqueros Marina . “ The lake was planted with 2500 pounds of trout on Friday and 3000 pounds of rainbows on Saturday ,” he stated . Trollers are picking up trout while using Speedy Shiners , Needlefish and other lures . Anglers tossing out PowerBait , nightcrawlers and other offerings are also landing trout . The top spots are the Peninsula , Cowboy Cove and Howden Cove . “ Rental boaters are also catching limits of striped bass while fishing with cut sardines and anchovies ,” he stated . “ Cowboy and Howden coves are among the better spots . The keepers range in size from 18 to 24 inches ; we haven ’ t weighed in any big ones over the past couple of weeks .” Few anglers have been fishing for catfish or largemouth bass lately . The water level is currently at 128K-acre feet . The water temperature is 66 degrees . The water clarity has been good except for windy days . If you are looking to rent a boat , it is always a good idea to call ahead to check current wind conditions . Remember ; rental boats are first come first serve .
