Up and Down Striper Fishing Challenges Anglers
RIO VISTA - The fishing for stripers on the Delta has been up and down , with finding schools of fish being challenging . “ Last week we did well , but the fishing started to slow down towards the end of the week ,” said James Netzel of Tight Lines Guide Service . “ While fishing on the San Joaquin River near Eddo ’ s Marina , we had a double on stripers weighing 13 and 8 pounds while trolling with shallow and deep running Yo-Zuris . We released the big fish and had 12 keepers that day .”
“ Om the next day , we caught a 9 , two 8 pounders and a 7 pounder , along with other fish 21 inches and over ,” he stated . “ Then the bite slowed down , with five fish one day , four fish the next , then seven fish on Sunday ,” he noted . Neztzel took several days off and then went to look for stripers on Friday on Snodgrass Slough in the North Delta , but had only reported landing one at press time .

SACRAMENTO AREA
Sturgeon Offer Best Sport Until Striper Action Heats Up
SACRAMENTO - Stripers are still largely absent from metropolitan area catches , although sturgeon offer some action for bank anglers . “ Local fishermen have gone looking for stripers in the Port of West Sacramento , Liberty Island , and Steamboat Slough areas , but they haven ’ t been able to find them yet ,” reported Uncle Larry Barnes at Sacramento Pro Tackle . “ Anglers are targeting sturgeon at the I Street Bridge and Sand Cover on the Sacramento River ,” said Barnes . “ They ’ ve been using ghost shrimp , pileworms , blood worms , nightcrawlers and salmon roe . Bait combos – like ghost shrimp teamed up roe – are working best .” Barnes said most of the fish being hooked now are oversized , with some keepers mixed in . He added that he hasn ’ t heard of any anglers hooking into rainbow trout in Lake Natoma lately .

SHASTA
Prespawn Bass , Browns , and Rainbows
Shasta Lake – Rob Hower reports Shasta is 92 ’ to crest as of Wednesday and water temp is 50 ° ish in the main body cooler up the arms . Trout bite is still on the slower side then last year . More fish are being caught in the shallower areas of the lake and in the top 30 ’. I ’ ve been trying to stay in the 100 ’ or less . Nice browns are still along the shoreline . Some smaller browns and rainbows are being caught in the more open water . Water clarity is still pretty good and debris is light even with the winds . Still picking up nice fish
