The Rod
Fishing rods go back to ancient Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, and medieval England, where they were called "angles". Fishing rods were typically made from split Tonkin bamboo, Calcutta reed, or ash wood, as it was necessary that they be made light yet tough. The butts were frequently made of maple, outlasting tops. Handles and grips were generally of cork. wood, or wrapped cane.
The Fish Hook
The world's earliest known fish hooks reveal that humans fished the sea for much longer than previously predicted. Evidence of fishing hooks made from bone date back to about 42,000 years ago, making them the earliest evidence of such tools in the world.
