Noise
Many people will argue that fish can't hear what is going on on the bank and that talking and shouting with your mates will go unnoticed. This is not true. Fish can hear better than a human can as it can also sense vibration through the water and that water amplifies noise. Its no good getting to your swim and crashing about whilst setting up your tackle and expecting the swim to fish well for the first few hours. If you have been a little noisy when starting up you will find it will take a few hours before the fish return to the area and feed with any confidence. The best approach is to stay as quiet as you possible can, especially during the winter as scaring the fish may result in you loosing your one and only chance of catching your quarry,
Camouflage
As many fishermen will tell you and you will notice as you gain more experience, the water during the colder months becomes clear compared to the colour of the water during the hotter months. Weed seems to settle more on the bottom of the lake instead of floating around on the top and fish can see rigs clearly. It is very important to make sure your rig blends in with the surroundings and bottom of the lake and make sure everything is pinned down. One little loop sticking up off the lake bed can alert wary fish to the presence of a trap and will spook them away from your rig and hook baits.
By following these basic rules to winter fishing you should hopefully start landing those winter monsters and find that you will have a lot more success during the colder months.
