Historically an important industry for food security, fisheries are beset with challenges currently

After the global decline in value of hydrocarbons brought to fore
the perils of insufficient attention to economic diversification,
Oman, (with its long coastline along Red Sea and Arabian Sea) is
GCC’s largest producer of fish at about 206,000 tonnes (2015
estimates, FAO), recognized the fisheries sector as the next most
important sector for stabilizing its economy.
