FRESHWATER REPORTS: CONTINUED FROM PG 25 TAHOE cont. mountains are mantled in snow, ski resorts are open and the lake’s mackinaw are blitzing baits and lures for anglers hardy enough to get out on the water. The most effective offering for macks in recent days have been rigged minnows, flies or small spoons trolled behind dodgers from 100 to 220 feet deep. Limits are being hooked at both the south and north ends of the lake. Tahoe Sportfishing is offering daily half day and full day trips. Skippers have been putting their clients on a parade of fish in the 3 to 6-pound class and when you are on the big lake a double digit mack, monster brown or big rainbow is always a possibility. The team at Tahoe Sportfishing has some of the best skippers on Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Sportfishing boasts a fleet of 8 boats that range from 30 to 45 feet in length. The boats are safe and the crews are well trained, so you’ll be able to relax and fight fish! With great winter fishing taking place on Tahoe, give the folks at Tahoe Sportfishing a call now to secure your spot (530) 541-5448 or check them out online at tahoesportfishing.com Private boaters that don’t have access to live minnows have been working shallow to moderately deep water with Rapalas, Flatfish and Gulp! minnows rigged behind various blades. While deep water yields the best results, private boaters working around the shoreline are scoring fish too. WEST DELTA Fish Sniffer Reader Lester Parson Lands 29 Pound Striper Amidst Great Sturgeon Action PITTSBURG- Sturgeon fishing is red hot with the best guides getting limits and early limits daily. There are some nice stripers around too, but few guys are targeting them. “I’d been hearing about the great sturgeon fishing taking place in Suisun Bay, so I decided to go out and see if I could hook one. I caught some salmon trolling the Old Sacramento this fall, so I had a couple pounds of uncured roe,” reported Lester Parson. “I marked some fish along the edge of the channel below Pittsburg. I anchored up and tossed out a sturgeon rod baited with roe and a striper rod with a dead frozen bullhead on it and settled in to wait. I caught a 6-pound striper on the bullhead right away and kept it. A couple minutes after I put the bass in the cooler the sturgeon rod got slammed and the fish hooked itself,” Parson exclaimed. “It stayed down and felt really heavy. I thought it was a sturgeon so when it turned out to be a huge striper I was surprised and excited. It’s the only bass I’ve ever caught on roe. I netted the fish, weighed it and turned it loose. The scale was bouncing from 28 to 32 pounds. I’m calling it a 29 pounder. It’s was the biggest striper I’ve ever caught by far,” Parson concluded. Captain Hayden Mullins of Dragon Sportfishing has been targeting sturgeon daily and his results have been nothing short of incredible. “We are getting double digit numbers of hook ups every day,” says Mullins. “Most days we are getting limits and some days we are done early. One day last week we had 6 limits by 9:30. Roe has This angler was fishing Lake Shasta this November been the best bait with Jeff Goodwin when this impressive rainbow trout for us.
