The weed spraying kept a few anglers
away as the areas that they normally
fish are devoid of grass. Strike King

anglers Billy Hines and Cody Meyers

Snag Proof did not enter the competition,
the team of Acosta/Gomez used Snag

Dan Mathisen of Dan Mathisen
Outdoors participated in the event, and
he said, “The lack of weeds in the south
Delta contributed to a slower bite as the
water is muddy from Fishermen’s Cut
back to Holland Tract. There was so
much boat traffic from heavy cruisers and
recreational boaters over the weekend
that the constant wakes muddied up the
river, and the sparse weed growth due to
heavy pelleting and spraying is unable to
filter out the sediment.”
There are algae blooms breaking out in
downtown Stockton, Discovery Bay, and
the Big Break Area, and the Department
of Boating and Waterways advised limiting
contact with the water, especially for pets.
Anglers are requested to report any
sightings of algae blooms through the
HAB hotline at 1-844-729-6466 or through

BRIDGEPORT - “Bridgeport is still
producing some very nice fish in the 3 to
5-pound range though we have received
some reports from anglers saying the
action is slow,” related Jim Reid at Ken’s
Sporting Goods. “It seems like some days
are very good with most of the reports
being good but other days the fish are
nowhere to be found.”

For rainbow trout, Cunningham
suggested trolling in the North Fork and
South Fork inlets with nightcrawlers
behind dodgers under downriggers or on
lead core line. Most of the rainbows are in
the 12 to 18 inch range.

rigs at 5 to 20 feet deep.
“One thing that should work on bass
this time of year is trolling with Rapala
crawfish pattern Shad Raps with 100
feet of line behind the boat along the
shoreline,” said Cunningham. “That will
get the lure down to about 13 feet deep.”
Folsom Lake is holding 850,240 acre

KLAMATH/TRINITY RIVERS
The Estuary Is the Spot for
Springers
SACRAMENTO – Fishing for spring
Chinook salmon remains good on the
Klamath River, but the only spot that has
been producing fish consistently to date is
the estuary.
“We’ve been averaging 2 to 3 salmon
per trip,” said Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor
Sports Guide Service. “Most of the fish
we’re catching are adults in the 9 to 10
pound range. We are trolling with rolled
anchovies and spinners in the estuary.”
“All of the fishing is taking place in the
estuary near the Requa boat ramp at
this time,” he noted. “I’m not hearing of
anglers catching the salmon upriver yet.”
The spring Chinook Salmon fishery
will be open through Aug. 14 on the
lower Klamath River (downstream of the
Highway 96 bridge at Weitchpec) and
from July 1 through Aug. 31 on the Trinity
River (upstream of the confluence of
the South Fork). The daily bag limit has
been set at one Chinook Salmon (no size
restrictions), and the possession limit is
set at two Chinook Salmon.
The fall Chinook fishery will open Aug.
15 in the Klamath River and Sept. 1 in
the Trinity River. The basin in-river quota
is 7,637 adult Chinook Salmon for 2019.
Regulations will remain the same as in
2018 with a two-fish daily bag limit, with
no more than one fish over 22 inches
(such as one adult and one jack). The
possession limit remains the same at six
fish, with no more than three fish over 22
inches (effectively three daily bag limits).

SACRAMENTO – Salmon fishing is
tough at Folsom Lake, but anglers still
have the opportunity to catch some quality
landlocked king salmon while trolling at
Folsom Lake during the early morning
hours.
“Guys are trolling cop car colored
Speedy Shiners at 90 feet in the main
body towards the North Fork and near the
dam,” said Mike Cunningham at Willfish
Bait and Tackle. “A few 3 to 5 lb. fish are
showing, along with smaller salmon.”
