on Thursday , June 22nd with 22 limits of rockfish and a pair of lingcod off of Timber Cove , and on the way back to the harbor , he found mats of krill in which they trolled up 16 salmon to 20 pounds off of Fort Ross .
Joseph Hernandez was drifting a live anchovy in San Francisco Bay aboard the Bass Tub on June 17 when this huge 30 lb halibut decided to feed .

He said , “ All of this northwest wind over the past months has created great conditions for salmon , and there is plenty of bait with brown water out there . I am looking forward to the coming month as I think we will see the salmon counts climb , particularly with the fish moving north right now towards Point Reyes .”
Captain Eric Holthouse of North Bay Charters and the six-pack , “ Take Five ,” is looking forward to chasing salmon in the coming weeks , but he has been running up to Fort Ross and Timber Cove for rockfish and ling cod with limits on a regular basis .
He said , “ We were out on Saturday for limits of both rockfish and lings , and we pulled the crab pots for a few Dungeness per client after a short soak . There is an excellent line of chlorophyll showing off of the coastline with lots of feed so I expect salmon fishing to continue to improve .”
If and when the salmon bite busts open , expect long lines at the Westside launch ramp as the lines have stretched for over a mile on weekend mornings in the past when the action is “ wide open .” The improved launching conditions at the renovated ramp should be of benefit to northern California boaters .

The San Francisco Firefighters trips for kids during the week produced anywhere from 6 to 12 fish .
“ The rockfish and lingcod action has been good at the Farallon Islands , but we haven ’ t fished for bottomfish along the Marin County Coast yet this season . The salmon boat boats reported catching limits of kings while trolling near Point Reyes over the past couple of days .”

Salmon Show North Of Harbor , Bottomfish Action Holds Steady
EL GRANADA - The arrival of calm weather off of the San Mateo coastline has coincided with the emergence of salmon above Half Moon Bay , while solid rockfish and lingcod action continues .
Out of Half Moon Bay Sport Fishing , Sherri Ingles reported excellent rockfishing when the weather cooperates at the Deep Reef and Pigeon Point .
She said , “ It has been very windy this spring , but on the days we are able to get out there , the extra 10 fathoms has been producing an excellent quality of rockfish that we haven ’ t been able to reach for at least 10 years .”
“ The Riptide scored 15 limits of both ling cod and rockfish on a recent trip , and experienced fishermen have been routinely bringing home limits . From the beaches , the striper bite has been very good with Diawa ’ s SP Minnows or Miki ’ s from Ocean Beach all the way south to Pigeon Point ,” Ingles explained .

After a day of running as far north as Duxbury Buoy to seek salmon with the Golden Gate fleet on Friday , Captain Dennis Baxter of the New Captain Pete struck gold in the local waters at Montara and Egg Rock with 16 salmon to 22 pounds for 17 anglers on Saturday , June 24 ,
Baxter said , “ The conditions were outstanding up at N Buoy , W Buoy , and S Buoy with whales , birds , brown water , and a lot of feed , but the salmon were absent for us . We finally picked a few once we arrived at Duxbury , and I was searching for sign on our way back to the harbor .”
“ We started off on Saturday off of Devils Slide as the krill was thick with blue whales and Cassin ’ s auklets all over the place . The salmon were on the surface from 20 to 35 feet , and Brad Hull of San Lorenzo picked up the big fish while Sybylle Weikel of Ben Lomond scored at limit at 12 and 13 pounds while winding up her long hair in the spool on one of the fish . She kept cranking and cranking despite the discomfort of losing some hair , and she landed the salmon . She scored her limits with only 1.5-pound weights from her position in the stern .”
