FRESHWATER REPORTS:
Sorenson said anglers can catch and
release 30 to 40 fish averaging 1-1/2
pounds each while fishing in the shallows.
Most of the fish are spotted bass, with an
occasional largemouth mixed in.
“Cast to the bank and reel in a tube,
worm, Senko or Ned rig,” he advised.
“There is also some top water action
available.”
Few anglers have been targeting
Chinook salmon lately, although that bite
should pick up soon. Sorenson and other
anglers have reported catching a few
kings while targeting bass with an array of
offerings.
To target the salmon, boaters should
troll with hoochies, tipped with anchovy
strips, behind dodgers in the Bidwell
Canyon area.
Lake Oroville is holding 3,329,526 acre
feet of water, 94 percent of capacity and
115 percent of average. The lake level is
886.55 feet in elevation.

“I saw a 20 and a 24 inch striper caught
off the pier today,” he said. Cut anchovies
or shad are the baits of choice, fished
either from shore or a boat.
However, the biggest fish caught
lately was the 15.9 lb. striper caught
by Jon Takara on a Rapala off a rental
boat. Another fisherman landed a15.76
pound cat in Cowboy Cove while using
anchovies.
The lake is holding 151,136 acre feet of

water temperature at the marina ranges
from 56 to 58 degrees.

Kokanee Salmon Fishing
Takes Off
ANGELS CAMP – The kokanee salmon
bite has turned on at New Melones
Reservoir.
“Right after our last fishing report
kokanee on New Melones kicked off with
several limits coming in to Glory Hole
Sports,” reported Gene Hildebrand of
Glory Hole Sports. “Gary Burns of Take
it to the Limit Guide Service has been
anticipating this year’s bite for some time
now, and it is now upon us with some nice
and fat kokes in the 1.5-2 lb. range and up
to 16” in length. Gary says these are really
nice kokes so far this year and expects
them to get even better. “
“Jerry a good friend and I took it to the
limit on Melones, the first limits of 2019,”
said Hildebrand.
Jay Winchester of Lockeford was off the
water and cleaning fish by 10:30 a.m.,
Shore Anglers Battle Big
Rainbows
FOLSOM – Trout plants will continue
through the late spring and summer at
Lake Pardee, due to the cold waters of
the lake that come from the Mokelumne
River. The latest plant of 1,000 pounds of
rainbow trout has boosted the fishing at
the lake.
Shore anglers are still reeling in fish at
Pardee, with the top action reported in
the early morning hours this time of year.
Most anglers are using PowerBait and
nightcrawlers to hook their fish, though
tossing out Kastmasters, Rooster Tails,
Panther Martins and other lures is also
worth a try.
Jody and Diane Ratto of Tracy teamed
up to bag two rainbows weighing up to 7.5
pounds while soaking PowerBait in Blue

trout while bait fishing from shore at the
Woodpile, reported Mike Massaglia of the
Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.
Finally, Joe Hernandez of Cameron Park
demonstrated his angling prowess by
catching a 16 inch trout from shore near
the marina.
Few anglers have been out kokanee
fishing lately. In recent weeks, anglers
have landed kokanee up to 16.5 inches
while trolling with pink Paulina Peak

shoe peg corn. The warming weather will
