Party Boaters Nail Sanddabs , Mackerel and Crabs
MONTEREY – This has been a slow time for fishing in Monterey Bay as anglers gear up for the rockfish and lingcod season on May 1 and the Pacific Fishery Management Council meets in March to determine the status of this year ’ s salmon season . Anglers are going out on charter and private boats to catch sanddabs , petrale sole . mackerel and Dungeness crabs when the weather allows . The latest trop by the Checkmate out of Fisherman ’ s Wharf produced “ lots of sanddabs ” and limits of crabs for a light load of 4 anglers on Feb . 25 . A previous trip on the Checkmate on Feb . 21 yielded 80 sanddabs and 30 crabs for 6 passengers . On another trip aboard the Checkmate on Feb . 20 , the 16 anglers landed “ lots of sanddabs ,” one petrale sole , 5 black cod , 80 mackerel and 76 crab ., reported Chris Arcoleo of Chris ’ Fishing Trips .
