“ Ron Brown , a friend of mine , and his fishing partner reported catching and releasing over a dozen bass on a recent trip to Berryessa ,” said Don Paganellif of Paganeli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ They caught the fish while using rip baits , drop shot rigs and jigs .. Most of the fish were spotted bass averaging around 2-1 / 2 pounds .” “ They concentrated on fishing the points in the Narrows ,” added Paganelli . “ They kept their boat in 15 feet of water . That way they could fish from shallow to deep .” Few trout , king salmon and kokanee salmon enthusiasts have been out on Berryessa , but that should change soon as the water clears from recent storms .

Trollers Battle Feisty Kokanee Salmon

DOBBINS – If you want to catch kokanee salmon this time of year , it ’ s hard to beat fishing at Bullards Bar Reservoir . Anglers fishing in the clearer water in the maim body by dam or off Dark Day are catching kokanee from 10 to 12 inches long .. “ Most fish are in the 0 to 11 inch range ,” said Justin Leonard of Out Cast Guide Service . “ Boaters are trolling spinners , Arctic Fox flies and Brad ’ s Kokanee Cut Plugs behind dodgers from the surface to 30 to 35 deep ..” Bullards Bar Reservoir is holding 706,243 acre feet of water , 81 percent of capacity and 125 percent of average Trout remain the main target for anglers at Englebright Reservoir . Boaters are catching rainbow trout to 18 inches while trolling in the top 15 feet of water with T-Rex spinners Needlefish and other lures or nightcrawlers behind flashers and dodgers . Englebright is holding 64,785 acre feet of water , 81 percent of capacity and 125 percent of average .

Big Rainbows Reward Anglers At South Pond , Main Lake

BURSON - Camanche Reservoir on the Mokelumne River is holding 312,520 acre feet of water , 75 percent of capacity and 124 percent of average . Rainbow trout plants continue at Lake Camanche . The latest trout plant was on January 20 , when 900l pounds of rainbows were stocked in the South Shore Pond and 900

pounds at the South Shore Ramp . On the previous plant , 1,000 pounds of rainbows went into the South Shore Trout Pond , 1,000 pounds to the South Shore Main Ramp and 1,000 pounds to the North Shore Main Ramp , a total of 3,000 pounds . Big fish honors go to Andre Mull , who caught a 10 lb . monster rainbow at the trout pond . Information : https :// www . golakecamanche . com / Big fish honors also go to Gary Yarbrough , who caught a 10.37-pound rainbow on “ the blind squirrel ,” his infamous boat on the main lake , according to the Lake Camanche Recreation Company . Manuel Mendoza of French Camp landed a 6.10 lb . brown trout while trolling upriver on the main lake . Black bass are also showing for anglers at Camanche . One angler weighed in 12.4-pound largemouth caught on the lake during a recent trip .

Bassers Find Mixed Results

LAKEPORT – Anglers are reporting mixed success on largemouth bass at this time as the water level at Clear Lake rises with the recent storms .

“ It ’ s a case of being at the right place at the right time for bass ,” said Dino Spella at Clear Lake Outdoors . “ I went out for six hours this week and only caught three fish , but the biggest one was an 8 pounder . The other two fish weighed 4 and 2 pounds . I hooked the fish while using lipless crankbaits mid-lake in the Rattlesnake and Redbud arms .” Faced with spotty fishing , some bass anglers are switching over to crappie fishing during their trips . “ Some bass guys are catching and releasing 15 to 30 crappie while fishing 2 inch Keitech Easy Shiners and jigs in the south end of the nice ,” he said . “ The ones I ’ ve seen caught were nice ones in the 1 to 2 pound range .”

The lake level at Clear has risen with the recent storms . At press time , the water level was 4.28 feet at the Clear Lake Rumsey Gauge . Anglers are getting ready for the 35th Annual Clear Lake Team Bass Tournament , presented by The Lake County Chamber of Commerce and directed by American Bass , on Saturday and Sunday , March 25th- 26th , 2023 .
