Salmon , Rockfish On Fierce Bite Outside Gate , Leopard Sharks Hitting In Bay
SAN FRANCISCO - The salmon fishing continues to be very good , with full limits of kings reported most days outside of the Golden Gate . The boats have been fishing both off the Marin County Coast and off Mussel Rock , depending on the day , as salmon schools move around . “ Today Blake chartered the boat for his bachelor party and we had an incredible morning of salmon fishing ,” said Mike Rescino , Captain of the Lovely Martha on Saturday , July 30 .

“ We finished up at 8:54 am with 17 limits ( 34 ) of salmon to 16 lbs .” On the previous day , Rescino reported “ another fantastic day of salmon fishing . We finished up at 11:20 am with 23 limits ( 46 ) of salmon to 24 lbs .!” Anglers aboard the Flash I and Flash II have been catching a mixed bag of halibut and sharks in San Francisco Bay and rockfish outside of the Golden Gate . “ Since last Sunday , the Flash I did 3 shark trips , 2 halibut trips and one ocean combo live bait rockfish / bay shark trip ,” said Captain Steve Talmadge . “ We ’ ve been getting limits of rockfish , while almost all our shark trips are catch and release . The biggest leopard shark we caught lately measured 48 inches long . We ’ ve been using salmon roe , salmon bellies and midshipmen for the sharks . We are doing a lot of shark trips . between the Alameda Rockwall and the Bay Bridge .” “ The Flash II did three ocean trips and four bay trips over the past week ,” added Talmadge . “ We ’ ve been catching limits of rockfish |
and two to three lingcod per trip on the . half day trips outside of the Golden Gate . The boat averaged around a halibut per rod on live bait trips during the slow tides on the bay , but he fishing slowed down during the bigger tides in the bay .” Out of the Berkeley Marina , James Smith , Captain of the California Dawn , reported on July 30 , “ Salmon fishing was on fire again today ! We caught limits of fish and salmon weighing up to 38 pounds . The California Dawn 2 checked in with 26 limits of salmon ( 52 ) to 38 pounds , while the California Dawn returned with 24 salmon to 20 pounds .” On July 29 , the anglers aboard both boats experienced “ wide-open rockfishing ” and caught jumbo lingcod at the Farallon Islands .
