and some lingcod . The beginning of crab / rockfish combo trips , originally scheduled for November 5 , has been delayed . The next scheduled risk assessment by the California Department of Fsih and Wildlife is expected to occur on or around Nov . 23 , 2022 ., according to Chris ’ Fishing Trips . The 25 anglers fishing aboard the Star of Monterey landed limits of rockfish ( 250 ) on October 29 , while the 16 anglers aboard the Checkmate bagged limits of rockfish ( 150 ) and one lingcod the same day . On October 28 , the 32 anglers aboard the Star of Monterey caught limits of rockfish ( 320 ) and 24 lingcod , while the 26 anglers on the Checkmate landed limits of rockfish ( 260 ) and 10 lingcod . The anglers have been fishing with shrimp flies tipped with squid strips , bars , jigs , swimbaits and other lures off the reefs of the Monterey County coast . The recreational take of Dungeness crab using crab traps will be
temporarily restricted statewide when the season opens on Saturday , Nov . 5 due to presence of humpback and blue whales and the potential for entanglement from trap gear . Recreational take of Dungeness crab by other methods , including hoop nets and crab snares , is not affected by the temporary trap restriction and is allowed statewide beginning Nov . 5 , 2022 .
