Sonoma County Coast Yields Excellent Rockfish And Lingcod Fishing
BODEGA BAY – Lingcod and rockfish action has been “ off the hook ” for anglers venturing out of Bodega Bay aboard the New Sea Angler , reported Rick Powers at the Bodega Bay Sportfishing Center . On his most recent trip on October 28 , the 19 anglers aboard the boat landed 190 rockfish and 29 lingcod up to 24 pounds while enjoying flat calm seas . “ Anglers caught excellent quality canary , brown and vermilion rockfish ,” noted Powers . “ They went home with big sacks of fish . The fishermen used everything to catch the lingcod and rockfish – jigs , bars , swimbaits and squid-baited shrimp flies .” The 9 anglers going aboard the New Sea Angler the previous day bagged 90 rockfish and 18 lingcod to 17 pounds . Another trip by Powers produced 240 rockfish and 48 lingcod up to 24 pounds for 24 anglers . When the Dungeness crab season opens on November 5 , 2022 , Powers said he will begin his crab / rockfish combos . The recreational take of Dungeness crab using crab traps will be temporarily restricted statewide when the season opens on Saturday , Nov . 5 due to presence of humpback and blue whales and the potential for entanglement from trap gear . Recreational take of Dungeness crab by other methods , including hoop nets and crab snares , is not affected by the temporary trap restriction and is allowed statewide beginning Nov . 5 , 2022 .

Crab / Rockfish Combos Begin Nov . 5
EL GRANADA – If you like to catch shallow water rockfish or go on a crab / rockfish combo trip , this is the time of year to hit the San Mateo Coast . “ What a great day of shallow water rockcod fishing off of Pescadero with some regulars and representatives of the Bodega Bay CCFRP Research Team ,” reported Captain Mike Cabanas of the New Captain Pete after his most recent local rockfish trip . “ We ended up with limits for 10 anglers , with 5 lingcod , 9 cabezon , 33 China rockcod , 15 gophers , and an assortment of other bottom dwellers and school fish .” Cabanas also reported superb catch-andrelease research fishing for rockfish and lingcod in the marine protected areas off Stewarts Point and Bodegahead with the Bodega Bay CCFRP Research Team in late October . “ We released over 600 fish one day ,” he noted . The Queen of Hearts has been concentrating on rockfish and lingcod trips lately . A trip on October 28 produced 50 rockfish and 2 lingcod for 5 anglers . Rockfish , Halibut Offer Most Consistent Sport
SANTA CRUZ – Rockfish , lingcod and halibut offer the top action for anglers fishing the Monterey Bay area . The bluefin tuna bite has slowed near the Davenport Fingers after the wind cooled the water . “ The water cooled down near the Davenport Fingers after the wind blew hard ,” reported Todd Fraser of Bayside Marine on October 27 . “ The few anglers who worked the area found birds and bait but no tuna . There were a few tuna marked about 100-200 feet down .” “ The water looks like it moved out towards the 601 and the Guide ,” advised Fraser . “ If I was going in the morning I would head to the Guide where there is a perfect temperature break . “ The rockfish bite has been good on the west side for anglers using jigs , bars , baited
