Point Reyes Area Kicks Out Giant Lingcod , Rockfish

BODEGA BAY – Party boat anglers are enjoying wide-open rockfish and lingcod fishing while venturing aboard the New Seas Angler out of Bodega Bay . The 18 anglers on a trip to Point Reyes on Thursday , September 8 landed 36 lingcod to 25 pounds and full limits of quality rockfish . “ The lingcod averaged 12 to 14 pounds , with lots of fish in the teens ,” said Captain Rick Powers of the Bodega Bay Sportfishing Center . “ The rockfish were big dinosaur canary , brown and vermilion rockfish . There were no school fish .” The 14 anglers fishing with Powers on September 9 landed 21 lingcod up to 15 pounds and limits of rockfish , also while fishing off Point Reyes Then on September 10 a charter of 22 anglers caught 34 lingcod to 18 pounds and full limits of rockfish . “ The rockfish

sacks weighed 50 to 60 pounds each ,” said Powers . “ We ’ ve been using just about everything for the rockfish and lingcod . Anglers are fishing with white feather flies , swimbaits and whole squid ,” he added . Private boaters also reported catching king salmon while mooching anchovies lately . On September 10 , the 3 anglers fishing aboard the Tyee Time bagged five salmon to 25 pounds while mooching just a 20 minute ride from the harbor , said Powers .
