Giant Kings Lead Late Summer Angling Parade
SACRAMENTO – Anglers aren ’ t catching large numbers of king salmon on Folsom Lake , but the ones they are hooking are big ones . “ One customer landed two king salmon weighing 9 and 13 pounds on a recent trip on Folsom ,” said Craig Newton at Willfish Tackle . “ He reported catching one or two fish every time he goes out while trolling anchovies at 80 to 110 feet deep .” Kevin Fogel reported catching a huge 13 lb . 9 oz . king on a trolling adventure at Folsom Lake on Labor Day . “ I got two bites on salmon and landed one big buck king ,” said Fogel on the Folsom Lake Facebook Page . “ I thought it was much bigger than what it was . It was 29 5 / 8 inches long . I lost my cloth tape so I didn ’ t get a girth , but it weighed 13 pounds , 9 ounces . I thought it was closer to 15 pounds , but it just didn ’ t carry the weight all the way to the tail ,. Still , it was one hell of a fight having a salmon on and a trout on at the same time .” “ I had another salmon on , just screaming like crazy , cutting across both lines , and it just popped off . The one king I did land was just barely lip hooked on my stinger hook single hooks I use . Then I caught a 16 inch hold over rainbow trout and that was it . The trout were released safely ,” he said .. Black bass fishing remains tough , due to the dropping lake level , but there are fish to be caught . Brent Steele reported catching and releasing 16 bass on crankbaits and jerkbaits on his latest trip to Folsom . “ Most fish were caught at 15 ’ - 20 ’ deep and the surface water temperature was 80 *. I landed a nice 4 lb . bass on a jerkbait right at the end of the day and got to watch most of the action on Livescope ,” Steele said . Currently the only two useable ramps are the Stage 1 ramp at

rates of Chinook salmon above the Highway 101 bridge , the recreational fishing quota for the Lower Klamath River will be imminently met . Based upon California Department of Fish and Wildlife ( CDFW ) projections of the recreational fallrun Chinook salmon catch on the Klamath River , anglers will meet the Lower Klamath River adult fall-run Chinook salmon quota below the Highway 96 Bridge near Weitchpec for the 2022 season as of 11:59 p . m . on Monday , Sept . 5 . This triggers the closure of the adult Chinook salmon fishery on the main stem of the Klamath River from the Highway 96 Bridge to the mouth of the Klamath River at the Pacific Ocean . The fishery at the mouth of the Klamath closes the same day , Monday , Sept . 5 , and will remain closed to all fishing for the rest of the calendar year . The rest of the lower main stem of the Klamath River below the Highway 96 Bridge at Weitchpec will remain open to the harvest of jack ( two-year old ) Chinook salmon ( less than or equal to 23 inches ). All adult Chinook salmon caught must be immediately released and reported on an angler ’ s report card . Anglers may still fish for adult Chinook salmon in other reaches of the Klamath Basin , including the main stem of the Klamath River above Weitchpec and the entire Trinity River until the closure of those fisheries . Anglers may monitor the quota status of open and closed sections of the Klamath and Trinity rivers by calling the information hotline at ( 800 ) 564-6479 . LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR
Summer Catfish Plants Continue
BYRON – While summer channel catfish plants continue at Los Vaqueros , few people have been fishing during the past couple of weeks because of hot and windy conditions .. Trout plants will resume when the water temperatures cool at the reservoir . The latest two plants of 1000 pounds of catfish by Tsai Enterprises went into the reservoir on August 27 and September 10 , according to the Los Vaqueros Marina . A total of 5,000 pounds of catfish have been planted in Los Vaqueros to date . The catfish average 1-1 / 2 to 3 pounds in size . Los Vaqueros regular Yekam El Nakar continues to catch stringers of big catfish on his trips to Los Vaqueros For catfish , chicken liver and anchovies remain the best bait choices . There has been a steady number of catfish being caught around the reservoir . South Cove , Cowboy Cove and Oak Point have been mentioned by anglers as some of the better spots .
