Bassers Bag Largemouths While Drop Shotting

NAPA – “ Fair to good ” black bass action is available at Lake Berryessa as the weather heats up , reported Don Paganellif Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ On my latest solo fishing trip to Berryessa , it was very windy ,” said Paganelli . “ I ended up catching 10 bass . I caught two while spooning with a Bladerunner spoon and then the rest on tubes and drop shotting at 10 to 15 feet deep .” “ All were largemouth averaging 2 pounds , with the top fish weighing 3 pounds .“ We were fishing points in the main body on north end of the lake from the east bank to the west bank ,” noted Paganelli . Trollers continue to catch a mixture of rainbows , kings and kokanee at Lake Berryessa , with rainbows producing the most consistent action . “ Today I had Randy Rath and his 3 boys Ryan , Rob , and Nick out in search of some bucket list fish ( lightning trout ) and kokanee and we knocked it out of the park ,” he said . “ We caught 4 big , beautiful lightning trout , full limits of kokanee to 13.5 inches , one fat rainbow trout and a nice smallmouth . We also released a couple and lost quite a few fish as well , all by 1230 p . m .” “ We had periods of rain , wind and great cloud cover , which made for enjoyable weather to put the hurt on these fish . At Englebright Reservoir , boaters are still catching trout and kokanee salmon . “ The anglers targeting kokanee are catching just 2 to 3 per day , but the fish are big ones averaging 16 inches and going up to 17 inches ,” said Newton . “ They are trolling kokanee gear for them , including hoochies and spinners behind dodgers .“ “ Most of the rainbow trout are being taken on gold and red GVF Spin Bugs or worms behind dodgers ; most go 12 to 15 inches long . A few browns are hitting where the Yuba River enters the lake ,” he added . Englebright is holding 68,170 acre feet of water , 97 percent of capacity and 103 percent of average .
