NEW MELONES LAKE
Kokanee Limits the Rule
ANGELS CAMP – For the first time in a while , Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing hit New Melones on June 14 , finding some superb kokanee action with Tim Sellers , manager of Fisherman ’ s Warehouse in Manteca , on a “ no pressure kind of day .” “ We landed 10 kokanee and one 2 pound rainbow ,” said Smith . “ We trolled from the spillway to Glory Hole Point . The new Paulina Peak Platinum flutter bugs did the trick for us .” One kokanee measured 12 inches , but the rest were in the 14 to 16 inch class . “ The fish are all over the place ,” stated Smith . “ There are pods of kokanee here and there . They are showing on the fish finder screen from 30 to 60 feet deep . We lost as many fish as we landed and some just didn ’ t get hooked up .” The surface water temperature was 72 degrees on the day of their trip .
LAKE OROVILLE
King Salmon Fishing Hit and Miss
OROVILLE – Before a June storm hit the area , Bret Brady of Bare Bones Guide Service reported averaging 3 to 6 kings per trip at Lake Oroville , However , the bite has become “ hit and miss ” since the weather system moved through . “ The fish we have been catching have ranged from 18 inches to just under 8 pounds ,” said Brady . “ We ’ ve been trolling Brad ’ s Cut Plugs , white hoochies and rolled anchovies at 70 to 130 feet deep . The top areas are the Dam ,
Now that is a great stringer of king salmon that was caught out of Lake Oroville . The largest weighed in at just under 8 pounds and most of the fish were caught on a white hoochie in about 70-100 feet of water .

Bidwell Point and the Green Bridge . ‘ Since the storm , the bite has been tough . However , the salmon bite began to improve around this time last year , so hopefully it will the same this year . So far this year , there have been very few fish in the 7 to 8 pound range and nothing over that .,” he noted . Dave Koistinen also reported tough fishing on his latest fishing adventure at Lake Oroville : “ I fished with Will Shearer III and his dad from 6 am to 1:30 pm . We finally got bit around 11:30 in front of the houseboats while fishing at 93 ft deep with an 8 ” green Slingblade and anchovy . Then around an hour later got another bite at the same depth on an 8 ” green and chrome 360 and Brad ’ s Cut Plug . The surface temperature is 76 degrees - that ’ s up 9 degrees from a week ago ,” said Koistenen . The Spillway Boat ramp has reopened . Boaters are currently using the Stage 2 ramp with lots of available
parking . Access is now made through the spillway bypass road starting from the Dam Crest parking lot . Access is open 24 hours for the boat ramp . The Bidwell Canyon , Loafer Creek and Limesaddle ramps remain open to boat launching . The Foreman Creek and Stringtown car top ramps are also open , For information about current launching conditions , call the Lake Oroville Visitor Center at ( 530 ) 538-2200 . Lake Oroville is holding 1,850,037 acre feet of water , 52 percent of capacity and 67 percent of average .

PARDEE / CAMANCHE LAKES
Kokanee and Trout Keep Coming In
IONE – Boaters continue to catch a mixture of kokanee and trout at Lake Pardee , while bank anglers are picking up trout while fishing areas with drop offs in the main recreation area . Pardee is being stocked with Mt . Lassen rainbow and lightning trout every other week , reported Veronica at the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company . The last plant of 2,000 pounds of trout was on June 10 and next plant of 1,000 pounds is scheduled for June 24 . Bank anglers are catching trout up to 5 pounds while using green garlic PowerBait off Rainbow Point and Treasure Island . “ On my latest trip on the lake , my client wanted five trout and five kokanee – and that ’ s what we caught , all by 12:30 p . m .” said Robbie Dunham of Koke Machine Guide Service . “ I drove him all around the lake and we had a great time .” The kokanee they kept ranged from 10-1 / 2 to 12 inches long . “ The kokanee were at 45 to 60 feet , from the mouth of the river up river to Deer Point . They were scattered everywhere . They hit gold / black and pink / purple Spinner Hoochies , tipped with with white corn , . behind RMT 4-1 / 2 inch dodgers ,” Dunham noted . The trout were in the 1-1 / 2 to 3-1 / 2 pound range . “ The trout all hit Speedy Shiners at 30 to 45 feet deep . We caught two in the north arm , two in the south arm and one in the river arm ,” he stated . Pardee Lake is holding 200,170 acre feet of water , 90 percent of capacity and 98 percent of average . Trout fishing is still “ pretty good ” for trollers at Lake Camanche , Dunham noted . “ My latest trip produced 10 rainbow trout up to 4-1 / 2 pounds for two anglers at Camanche ,” said Dunham . “ We trolled Speedy Shiners fron 30 to 45 feet deep in open water in the river channel . We were limited out by 10 a . m .” Camanche is holding 216,630 acre feet of water , 52 percent of capacity and 73 percent of average .
