They kept the larger fish and released the rest . All of the fish hit Metal Head trolling flies .” Bank anglers are catching trout while fishing shoreline by dam and shoreline up the lake “, Jedd Zaleski and his two boys caught 13 rainbows to 4 pounds and 2 big redear sunfish while fishing Power Bait and inflated nightcrawlers from shore on a day that I had to cancel our trip because of stormy conditions on the lake ,” said Kellogg . “ They caught their fish caught their fish over a mud bottom in a very weedy area .” Crappie showing all over lake – Kellogg has seen big schools of crappie in 15 to 30 feet of water . Anglers are using white marabou 1 8 ounce jigs on ultra-light rods . “ The trick is to drop the lure down , reel up slowly and then wiggle the rod tip ,” he advised . The latest plant of 3,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbows , including trophy fish , went in the Week of 4 / 25 – 4 / 29 .

The lake level is currently 17 ’ from full and the surface water temperature is 58 degrees .

Trollers Lay Into Hefty Trout

PORTOLA – Boaters are experiencing “ very good ” trout fishing while trolling on Davis Lake , reported Jim Graham of J & J ’ s Grizzly Story and Camping Resort . “ Anglers are bagging rainbows to 21 inches while trolling with Baby Simons around the Big Island at 10 to 15 feet deep ,” said Graham . “ One boater limited out on rainbows in the 16 to 21 inch range while using Baby Simons .” Bank anglers are also finding success while casting out Power Bait and nightcrawlers at Mallard , said Graham . Since one angler caught a 4-1 / 2-pound largemouth bass in Catfish Cove while using a plastic frog off the bank , Graham hasn ’ t heard of any other bass reports . The boat ramp is in operation but the boat docks aren ’ t in the water yet . The lake is holding 50,704-acre feet of water , 61 percent of capacity and 80 percent of average .

Angler Boats 10 Lb . King Salmon !

SACRAMENTO – Salmon and trout fishing has been tough on Folsom lately , with relatively few anglers finding success , according to Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and Tackle .

These two were fly fishing the Green River in Dutch John , Utah when they landed these beautiful trout .

However , the slow reports didn ’ t stop Novak Perchevitch ’ s father from landing a huge king salmon weighing 10 pounds , 4 ounces on April 24 . “ My dad caught the fish while using my homemade flashers paired with a Speedy Shiner ,” said Perchevitch on the Folsom Lake Fishing Report Facebook Page . Black bass fishing is very good now at Lake Folsom as the fish congregate in the shallows for the annual spawn . “ The fish are showing in the top 15 feet of water ,” reported Don Paganelli of Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ Anglers are using an array of plastics , including tubes , drop shot rigs , Carolina rigs , and Wacky rigs . . All techniques are working now .”

A lot of spotted and largemouth bass are showing in the catches , along with a few smallmouths . “ Most of the fish are in the 1 to 3 lb . range – I haven ’ t heard of anything big caught lately ,” he noted . The reservoir is holding 786,809 acre feet of water , 81percent of capacity and 107 percent of average . Folsom ’ s water level is 448 feet in elevation , 18 feet from full . The launch ramps at Brown ’ s Ravine , Granite Bay Stage 2 and Folsom Point are open . The Hope ramp at Brown ’ s Ravine is closed , The old Peninsula ramp and the Rattlesnake ramp are also now in operation .
