( 831 ) 633-2564 .” Now that the rockfish season is over , anglers are catching lots of sanddabs , good numbers of petrale sole on some trips , and decent numbers of Dungeness crabs . The 16 anglers aboard the Checkmate on Saturday , January 8 , caught lots of sanddabs and 31 crabs aboard the Checkmate , reported Chris Arcoleo of Chris ’ Fishing Trips . A previous trip aboard the Checkmate produced lots of sanddabs , 25 petrale sole and 13 crab for 9 anglers . On the final day of rockfish season , Todd Fraser of Bayside Marine in Santa Cruz reported , “ It was nice close to Santa Cruz , but there was some chop up the coast . There were nice lingcod , crab , and rockfish caught today . The rockfishing is officially closed . You can fish for flat fish like halibut and sole . The white sea bass fishing is open all year along with sharks . “

Recreational Bag Limits Reduced for Some Species in 2022
SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Fish and Wildlife ( CDFW ) announced multiple changes to recreational rockfish sub-bag limits that went into effect on Jan . 6 , 2022 . The emergency regulations were adopted by the California Fish and Game Commission in mid-December to align with federal regulations for these species . Changes to the sub-bag limits within the 10-fish daily Rockfish , Cabezon , Greenling ( RCG ) complex bag and possession limit include :
• A decrease to the statewide sub-bag limit for vermilion rockfish ( Sebastes miniatus ) from five fish
