FOLSOM LAKE
Trollers Land Scrappy King Salmon , Bass
FOLSOM – Fishing pressure for king salmon , rainbow trout , black bass , channel catfish and other fish species remains very light at Folsom Lake . The low water launch ramp at Granite Bay remains the only usable ramp for boat launching at the lake . The reservoir is holding 231,232 acre feet of water , 24 percent of capacity and 40 percent of average . Folsom ’ s water level is 374 feet in elevation , 92 feet from maximum pool . “ One customer reported catching four king salmon and 2 spotted bass on his latest trip on Folsom ,” revealed Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and Tackle . “ He trolled with Brad ’ s Kokanee Cut Plugs behind flashers at 55 feet deep from Granite Bay to the dam .”
Mike Bogues Guide Service put this lucky angler on a quality salmon . Salmon fishing on the river should start heating up with the cooler weather .

Boaters continue to hook spotted , smallmouth and largemouth bass while using an array of offerings as the lake level gets lower and lower . Brent Steele on the Folsom Lake fishing report page reported , “ I switched up from reaction baits to my first time finesse fishing on Folsom . I found out the bass absolutely love margarita mutilator worms dragged slowly on the bottom .” “ Anywhere around big or small rocks , points , ledges , flats , and islands now exposed have all been successful for me .,” he tipped . “ If you ’ re bank fishing , I ’ d use a setup like this and target rocks and any points you can find . Also this setup was recommended by Jon Ricker , who was nice enough to give me some to try out when I met him on the lake ! So far I ’ ve caught over 25 fish with it and I couldn ’ t be happier !” Both State Parks and the El Dorado Sheriff ’ s department have boats on the lake to ensure that boaters are following the lake ’ s speed limit , according to the Folsom Lake Marina .

NEW MELONES LAKE
Trollers Bag Holdover Rainbows , Bass
ANGELS CAMP - The trout bite at New Melones has gone deeper , with most trout being caught 40- 80 ft . deep trolling . It seems like the go to for trolling trout has been nightcrawlers trailing a blade or flasher . Lee and Patricia Fitzgerald of Forest Meadows teamed up to land a 3.5 lb . holdover while using a crawler and trolling at the mouth of the dam . Locals Dan Holley and Don Cady were once again hitting the trout on New Melones , landing 6 rainbows while trolling from the spillway to the dam . BASS : With plenty of hilltops and points coming out of the water , opportunity is wide-open on bass fishing . In the early morning and late evening , cast crankbaits , spinnerbaits , poppers , and whopper ploppers into shadows or wind driven ripples on the water . Also , fish hilltops with a dropshot presentation . CATFISH : This time of year plenty of anglers are targeting the large catfish that slip under cover in the coves . Cutbaits such as mackerel , sardines , or anchovies are the most popular baits , along with chicken livers . Make sure on your softer baits that you wrap it with Magic Thread to secure bait onto your hook . CRAPPIE : Your best shot at crappie is getting into a cove , dropping a light and using crappie jigs or live minnows . New Melones Reservoir ’ s current water level is 924.75 ft . and down 163.20 ft . from full , leaving the lake sitting about 37 % of capacity . Some good news : water releases have been lower the last couple weeks with a 3 ” average lake level drop per day compared to the last 3 months of 9 ” to 12 ” per day . The water temperature is 78 degrees . ANYONE 40 or younger is required to have a California Boating Card on board any vessel they are navigating . For the weekend warrior planning to camp out , Tuttletown has Acorn open and Glory Hole Point has Ironhorse and Big Oaks campgrounds open . Dump stations
