Salmon and Rockfish Are Biting off San Mateo Coast
EL GRANADA – Rockfish are providing the most consistent fishing off Half Moon Bay , with the salmon fishing being up and down , depending on the day . On July 14 , the private rockfish / salmon combo charter by Ken Yuen produced 4 limits of both rockfish and salmon aboard the Hulicat . “ The rockcod action off of the Deep Reef was quick and easy with Ken landing a 4 lb . vermilion and a nice flag rockfish ,” said Captain Mike Cabanas . “ We went north for the salmon bite and had 4 limits in a few hours .” On the previous trip , the 7 anglers aboard the Hulicat bagged limits of rockfish . “ It was another great day of rockcod fishing off of San Gregorio . Cindy Sharorno from Washington landed a 5 lb . vermilion and a 12 lb . lingcod . Darren Seiji bagged a nice starry and brown rockfish ,” said Cabanas . The 10 anglers aboard the Queen of Hearts landed 20 salmon on July 14 . “ After many trips of searching with little reward , we finally landed
on the salmon again ,” the Queen of Hearts reported . “ The best part , it ’ s the closest we fished to home all year . Our group of 9 caught their full limits by 11:30 and also got a limit for the crew .” The next salmon

Boaters Head to Point Sur for Bottomfish Bonanza
MOSS LANDING - Charter boats out of Moss Landing and Monterey are concentrating on rockfish and lingcod now , since mooching for salmon is slow in Monterey Bay , The 16 anglers aboard the Kahuna landed 20 canary rockfish , 20 copper rockfish , 6 petrale sole , 20 rockfish and 36 vermilion rockfish on Saturday , July 17 . The 17 anglers aboard the boat the day before caught 170 rockfish and 4 lingcod . A trip on July 4 yielded one California halibut , 12 canary rockfish , 54 copper rockfish , 11 lingcod , 5 petrale sole , 32 rockfish , 35 vermilion rockfish and 5 lingcod ( released ). “ We ran down the coast in absolutely gorgeous weather and were rewarded with high quality rockfish today , plus 11 lingcod , 5 petrale sole and a 16 lb . halibut ,” said Carol Jones of Kahuna Sportfishing , Chris ’ Fishing Trips in Monterey
