If you catch fish in certain area , stick it out longer for better fish ,” advised Chang Her . “ Baits to use / try : include deep diving crankbaits , jigs , jerkbaits , plastic worms ( zoom , z-man , and robo worms ) on shakey heads or drop shot rigs .” Bidwell Canyon and the Spillway ( Gravel 4 Wheel Drive Only ) are the only boat ramps open on Lake Oroville now .

Rainbows Bite In Colder , Deeper Water
IONE – Robbie Dunham of Koke Machine Guide Service continues to experience top-notch trolling for holdover rainbows while using downriggers at Pardee and Camanche lakes . On July 15 , the two anglers fishing with Dunhan at Pardee landed 10 fish , full limits of trout , including two lightning trout and eight rainbows . “ We trolled with Speedy Shiners at 40 to 70 feet in the main body ,” he said , “ We fished no particular spot – we kept trolling around until we caught limits . The kokanee fishing has been slow at Pardee .” Two days earlier , two anglers bagged 10 rainbows to 3 pounds while trolling Speedy Shiners in the river channel at Lake Camanche . “ We were done by 9:30 a . m . with our limits ,” noted Dunham . Lake Camanche is now holding 183,750 acre feet of water , 44 percent of capacity and 61 percent of average .

Target Delta for Stripers and Largemouths
RIO VISTA – Clyde Wands of Sacramento reported decent fishing on the San Joaquin River above the Antioch Bridge for a couple of hours on his most recent fishing adventure on the Delta , “ Chester Linton and I caught three keepers in the 23 to 24 inch range while trolling shallow running Yo-Zuri lures ,” said Wands . “ The bottom of the outgoing tide is the best time to fish . The grass in the water was a big problem .”
Alan Fong , manager at Fisherman ’ s Warehouse in Sacramento , and his two fishing partners , Dave Clark and Denise Loo , experienced solid largemouth fishing in the South Fork of the Mokelumne near Sycamore
Slough on his latest trip there . “ The three of us caught and released over 30 fish while using chatterbaits and blades ,” said Fong . “ We hooked the bigger ones in the current in the grass on the low tide . Loo caught two bass weighing 5 and 4 pounds while using a bait casting rod for the first time . The best five fish weighed probably 18 pounds .”

Bows , Kings , Kokanee and Browns In The Mix
SHASTA LAKE - Captain Jeff Goodwin , Jeff Goodwin Fishing , reports Shasta Lake is fishing quite well and we expect nothing to change , even with lower than normal lake levels this year . We are catching rainbow trout , king salmon , kokanee salmon , and the occasional brown trout . Because of the abundance of available bait ( Shad ) this year , the trout and salmon are packing on their summer weight before preparing for the fall spawning rituals . With water temps on the surface hovering around 83 degrees , the trout and salmon have started to push down deeper and deeper the past few weeks and are now concentrated from 60 ’ - 80 ’ deep . Using Shad pattern lures and attractors that are either glow in the dark or painted with UV colors can help anglers match the hatch and get into some pretty good bite periods . Other traditional trout and salmon lures will work , but the Shad patterns are the key to getting lots of bites . We ’ ve been concentrating our efforts on the

We have seen a small decline in bookings on Shasta Lake this summer due to nearby fires and lower than normal water levels , either of which has affected the fishing or the air quality for the most part thus far . We ’ ve encouraged our clients to keep their family vacation plans on or near Shasta Lake this year , even with all the negative press the area has been the subject of in recent months . Our clients are having a great time fishing or staying on or near the lake and I haven ’ t heard of any negative experiences our clients have had this year while at Shasta Lake . The fishing is good and the water levels are far from being too low on Shasta Lake to have a good stay .
