FRESHWATER REPORTS :

NEW MELONES LAKE
Kokanee Salmon Bite Turns On !
ANGELS CAMP – New Melones Reservoir ’ s current water level is 987.50 and down 100.5 ft . from full . The water temperature is 71 degrees ., and warms up to 73 degrees or so mid day . Water visibility is anywhere from 4-6 feet and will have some mudlines on the weekends due to the high amount of boat traffic out on the lake .
For the weekend warrior planning to camp out , Tuttletown has Acorn open and Glory Hole Point has Ironhorse and Big Oaks campgrounds open . Dump station @ Glory Hole is also open . However , Reservations are required for camping . Contact www . recreation . gov .
KOKANEE : The kokanee bite has officially turned on with lots of limits being caught with some 18 ” in the mix . Most people have reported catching Kokanee from 40-60ft deep although this can change depending on the water temperature that day . Out in front of the mouth of the dam and slightly out from the spillway have produced the most fish recently , although there has been some reports of kokanee being caught up around the Angels Creek area as well . As always Apex lures and hoochies in wonderbread , chartreuse , pink & orange or watermelon have been the hot lure behind a matching dodger .
TROUT : Trout fishing along the shoreline is tough as they are mostly being found in the cooler , deeper 40-60 ft . water . Main river channel harbors most trout and outside the mouth of the dam is productive trolling Apex lures , Mack ’ s wiggle hoochie , or a hoochie / dodger combo . No downriggers ? Drop a line with crawlers down 50 ft . and see what comes up .
BASS : With the large amount of baitfish on the water , you will get some good action using plugs and Whopper Ploppers from River2Sea . Morning may be the best time for your topwater presentation switching over to plastic baits later in the day using shakey heads , and ned rigs . Upriver has been producing a good bite along the vertical wall , and on points and near hill tops .
CATFISH : Catfishing is starting to heat up with the warmer weather upon us . Cut baits , chicken livers and night crawlers are choices for baits . Jerry Valentine of Mountain Ranch has been doing well using night crawlers bank fishing during

LAKE OROVILLE
Landlocked Chinooks Are Big But Few and Far Between
OROVILLE – It continues to be a case of quality , not quantity for salmon anglers trolling at Lake Oroville . Salmon from 8 to just under 12 pounds have been pulled from the lake over the past month , but don ’ t expect to catch a lot of fish .
On his latest

trolling adventure on Lake Oroville , Dave Koistinen of Tornado Flshers on May 31 reported 2 salmon for 3 bites . “ The bite was off by 9:30 and I was off the water at 11:00 a . m .” he reported on the Lake Oroville Fishing Reports Facebook page . “ I trolled a Brad ’ s cut plug white hoochie and rolling anchovy – both got bite .. All of the bites came on 8 ” Tornado flasher 360 green and chrome dodger 80ft deep 1.7 mph .”
“ The Tornado Flasher tip of the day for Lake Oroville king salmon anglers is to upgrade your leader line to at least 15 lb . test and your main line to 20 lb . test ,” he advised . “ Change out your hooks on your off the shelf hoochies , and Brad ’ s kokanee cut plugs to Gamakatsu 1 / 0 finesse wide gap hooks .”
“ Use the tray anchovies ,” he tipped . “ Fillet them somewhat still frozen then cut them up in 3 / 4 ” squares . Place in a baggie with coarse sea salt for 2 days in the fridge . Then freeze the night before fishing . This should help put more fish in the boat .”
On a trip this May , Koistenen successfully battled his personal best chinook at the lake , an 11.92 lb . fish , while using his flashers .
Craig Newton of Willfish Bait and Tackle reported boaters at Lake Oroville are hooking a few kings in the 4 to 9 lb . range while rolling anchovies near the dam and the green bridge at 50 to 70 feet deep .
Crappie anglers are catching quality slabsides on Lake Oroville . Chang Her reported : “ The fish were suspended 10-15 feet in 30-35 feet of water . They were holding very tight to structures and you

almost have to hit them in the head for them to bite . A small 2 ” swim bait on a 1 / 16oz head did the trick for us .
Lake Oroville is holding 1,338,756 acre feet of water , only 38 percent of capacity and 45 percent of average .

LAKE PARDEE
Rainbows and Kokanee Pace Catches
IONE - . While trout stocking has halted in other Mother Lode lakes , Mt . Lassen continues to plant trout in Lake Pardee as long as water temperatures allow .
2000 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbow trout were planted on Friday , May 28 and another 1000 pounds were stocked on Friday , June 4 .
Two anglers booked a kokanee / trout combo trip with Robbie Dunham of Koke Machine Guide Service on June 3 . They caught 5 trout to 2-1 / 2 pounds , including 2 lightning trout , and 4 kokanee salmon to 15 inches .
“ We fished for kokanee until 10:30 am and then for trout until 2 p . m .,” said Dunham . “ We trolled from the dam to Columbia Gulch at 60 to 80 feet deep with my home made spinner hoochies for the kokanee . Then we landed the trout while trolling Speedy Shiners on the main body from 30 to 50 feet deep . I saw a total of 10
