LAKE BERRYESSA
Bass Bite Is Still Solid
NAPA – The black bass bite on Lake Berryessa is still productive , although it has tapered off a bit as the fish are now in post-spawn mode .
“ On my latest trip to the lake , the two of us caught and released 15 fish to 3 pounds ,” said Don Paganelli of Paganelli ’ s Bass Fishing Experience . “ Most of the fish were largemouths . We fished top water lures early in the morning and then switch to swimbaits and other plastics during the day .”
After some great kokanee trips to Berryessa this spring , Rich Crispi of TW Guide Service , reported a couple of tough days .
“ The first trip was with good buddy Chris , who I haven ’ t seen much of since COVID started ,” he stated . “ We had a terrible start to the day and finished with 4 keeper kokes and released one second year fish .”
“ My second trip was with my good client Sam ,” said Crispi . “ We caught 5 fish , 3 being small ones . We released 2 second year kokes and had to keep the damaged one . The boat traffic killed the bite around noon .”
Crispi said RMT Assassin spinners in pink , purple and pink and the green and pink produced fish both days . He used them behind pink crush or green crush RMT dodgers .. The best depths were 48 and 62 feet .
BULLARDS BAR RESERVOIR
Kokanee Top Summer Angling Parade
DOBBINS – “ Easy limits ” of scrappy kokanee salmon are the reward for most anglers trolling at Bullards Bar Reservoir , reported Craig Newton at Willfish Bait and Tackle .
“ Most of the fish being caught now are in the 11 to 13 inch range , with a few fish in the 13 inch range showing in the catches ,” said Newton . “ Anglers are trolling with pink and orange hoochies and spinners , tipped with white corn , behind dodgers at 35 to 50 feet deep . Willow Creek , Garden Point and Mill Creek are the top areas to fish .”
One customer reported catching and releasing lots of small spotted bass during a recent trip to Bullards Bar . “ The biggest one was 1-1 / 2 pounds ,” said Newton . “ He used Ned rigs and drop shot set-ups from

Englebright Reservoir is producing solid rainbow fishing now . “ One local reported catching a limit of rainbows , including two holdovers in the 3 pound range , while trolling with nighcrawlers behind dodgers ,” said Newton .
Bullards Bar is holding 560,126 feet of water , 58 percent of capacity and 67 percent of average .

CLEAR LAKE
Largemouth Fishing Is ‘ Amazing ’
ClEARLAKE - Dave Burruss , the owner of Clear Lake Outdoors , gave an “ amazing ” rating to the post-spawn bass bite at Clear Lake .
“ The bass are now off their beds and they are very hungry ,” he advised . “ I ’ ve caught and released an average of 50 bass on each of my three trips this week . I have been using chattterbaits and underspins in 5 to 20 feet of water . The fish fare shallower in the mornings and then go deeper as the day goes on .”
“ The fish average 2 to 4 pounds . We ’ re seeing an occasional 5 to 6 lb . bass . The fish are skinny now after the spawn ,” he

he is using , he noted that anglers are using Senkos in the weeds and drop shot rigs in the deeper channels of the lake .
“ The crappie fishing has slowed down ,” Burruss noted . “ They ’ re very hard to get off the bank and have moved into 15 to 20 feet of water , where anglers are using small jigs and swimbaits .”
Catfish in the 10 to 15 lb . range are hitting anchovies and other cut baits throughout the lake . There are some huge fish out there ; Robert Cooker of Sacramento won first place in the adult division of the 21st annual Clearlake Oaks-Glenhaven Business Association Catfish Derby on May 14-16 by catching a 23.72 lb . channel catfish .

COLLINS LAKE
Trout Slow as Redear Hit Spawning Beds , Catfish Appear !
OREGON HOUSE – With Collins Lake at low levels we typically don ’ t see until fall the bass and other warm water fish are having to fan out spawning beds in places other than their usual haunts . Particularly we ’ ve seen Redear Sunfish nesting along the shoreline in whatever rocky areas they can find . The Vance family caught a bucket full using redworms . Redworms or mealworms make good bait for these panfish - who , during spawning , are not so much interested in food as they are in keeping a clean nesting area . A larger wiggling nightcrawler

3722 is just as infuriating to these scouring shellcrackers . However , they will just pick it up and spit it outside their boundary . A smaller redworm or mealworm is more likely to produce a catch .
As we step firmly into summer weather we are starting to see more catfish - the largest catch to hit the bragboard was an 8 1 / 2 pound catfish caught by Nancy Lowe of Folsom using a night crawler along the main channel . It ’ s not usually where I would look for a catfish on this lake , but it ’ s not exactly a usual kind of year .
The beginning of May included quite a number of trout limits and some trophy trout . Mitch Franks from Loma Rica caught 8lb trout trolling Rapalas , along side a 6.5 pound , and 5 pound fish . Gary Haskins was also trolling , but using a brown grub , when he reeled in a 8lb 20z trophy trout . The largest trout in the last two weeks was caught by Nick Chiley of Sacramento who caught a 10-1 / 2lb trout way down at 30 ft .
The depth of that catch should serve as an indicator that generally the trout are moving to cooler waters as the surface temperature hovers around 70F . For the same reason spring trout plants are done for the 2021 season .
While trout catching has slowed in the last week we are still seeing a few limits ; recently Danny Kimble of Brownsville caught a limit on PowerBait from the shore near the dam , including a 6.5 pound fish . Richard & Devin of Woodland did nearly as well with 9 trout caught with the same bait in the same area .
It ’ s a busy lake out there on the weekends . If you can , hit the water early Monday through Thursday . In the summer sun most of the bigger lake fish seem to take a siesta from 11 am till about 3 pm . If you ’ re still looking to catch a trout , find a steep shoreline and cast into deeper water .

DAVIS LAKE
Trollers , Shore Anglers Battle Quality Rainbows
PORTOLA – Trout fishing has been very good at Lake Davis for both boaters , shore anglers and fly fishers that hit it right .
“ We landed 24 fish to 19 inches on my latest guided trip ,” disclosed Ed Dillard at Dillard Guided Fishing . “ We were catching the trout on the copper flame Baby Simon lures down at 12 feet deep .”
Jeanne Graham at J & J ’ s Grizzly Store and Camping Resort confirmed the top-notch trout trolling at Davis – and recommended fishing Baby Simons at 15 feet deep from Honker Bay to just north of Mallard .
The bank fishing for rainbows and an occasional brown is also going strong at
