Average Row, a YouTuber with a career plan YOUTH REACHES OUT TO THE OUTDOORS BY JEFF MORRISON ROWAN (ROW) ELSMORE, a 12-year old Grade 6 student from Orleans, is creating a buzz in the online world. An avid “Vlogger” (that’s “video blogger” for out-of-date readers) with an impressive 2,000+ subscribers on his YouTube channel, young Row dreams of becoming an outdoor travel writer and making a career out of the pastime he enjoys so immensely. www.fishhuntandride.ca His dad John, a sales manager at Bel-Air Toyota in Orleans, said every step of the way the family has “encouraged and supported his passion by allowing him to use any of the camera and filmmaking equipment we have in our household. “We helped Rowan get his channel going by getting a digital SLR that we let him use to start filming. Since then Rowan has been able to save his own money to get his own … and even recently he saved up and purchased his own phantom drone.” If you’re not familiar with the impact and market potential of “YouTubing,” it’s time to crawl out from under the boulder where you’ve been since 1998. YouTube and vlogging is huge business among today’s youth, and I have no doubt Row will find his niche in this marketplace. On his channel called AverageRow, you can watch him covering things like how-to’s for Rubik’s cube, GoPro filming techniques, tips for video gamers and – my personal favourite – salmon fishing on the Ganaraska River. His Dad John told me Row plans a lot more fishing videos this summer. We at Fish, Hunt & Ride will keep a close eye on AverageRow to see what’s in store next. Check out AverageRow on YouTube at www.youtube.com/channel/UCaKGs3FSq- jKQf-ZbrzVeWCw FISH , HUNT RIDE | 29
