And what an incredible issue we have in store for you!

Readers should notice right off the bat the thickness and sheer
magnitude of this offering, which now runs to more than twice
the length of our launch, and hey folks, this “bigger is better”
excitement doesn’t stop there. This time we delve even more deeply into areas
readers have personally requested.
More fishing, more Uncle Ted, and more ATVs, thank you very much, and I believe
the FHR editorial staff and I have delivered in spades.
You met FHR's core writing team in our launch issue, and we have since retained a
couple of key new players to cover specific areas of interest. First off, I am pleased to
introduce a local fishing legend who really requires no introduction, Lawrence
Gunther. He has the claim to fame as the only blind professional angler in all of
North America.
Another new member to join our writing staff is Dave Baker, not only an avid
hunter, trapper and president of the Nation Valley All-Terrain Vehicle Club (NVATVC),
but one of the heaviest hitters in the all-terrain world today. He’s an ATV guru and
we are all lucky to have him on board. “Firearms expert Allen Macartney also joins
us this issue – a gent with great passion for shooting and outdoor adventure. Allen
has been a long-time contributor of Ottawa Outdoors and we’re proud to have him
now as part of the FHR Team.” Be sure to check out local outdoor enthusiast Andrew
Cameron’s first FHR column. He’s what you might call an outdoor world irony, being
an avid shed-antler hunter and trail camera aficionado, but someone who doesn’t
actually deer hunt.
This issue I am also excited to present an exclusive Q&A interview with our
celebrity columnist Ted Nugent. Uncle Ted took some time away from hunting last
fall to answer a few of my questions and chat about his hunting and rock ’n’ roll
career, in true Nuge style.
I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of this issue’s features including some hot trout and
pan fish techniques, a spotlight on ladies of the hunting world, tips on pursuing Lake
Ontario’s tributaries for steelhead, and chasing Ontario beards and spurs with
camera and shotgun. I even share some of my proven fish-cooking techniques and
favourite trout recipes.
A special thanks to all those who stopped-by ourFish, Hunt and Ride Booth at the
Outdoor and Adventure Travel Show in March. Remaining connected and strong
among the region’s hunting, fishing and riding community is of utmost importance
to FHR. Our fishing and hunting heritage and passion for the great outdoors are the
ties that bind – a connection never taken for granted. To meet a fellow outdoor
sportsman is to encounter a kindred spirit and shall we forever remain united and
strong.
Enjoy our spring issue and take advantage of the many outdoor opportunities our
region has to offer. To borrow a line from the Nuge himself: Get out there and fish,
hunt and ride like you mean it!
Yours in the great outdoors.
