THE ALAMEDA COUNTY FIRE TRAINING CENTER
Although the bidding process for the new Alameda County Fire Training Center closed in July , the winning bidder / prime contractor will be seeking several subcontractors to help build this $ 30 + million project .
The new Alameda County fire training facility project , which will replace an outdated and undersized fire training center in San Leandro , will require design , site preparation , construction and related services . To be located on a 5.2-acre County-owned parcel in Dublin , the development will include approximately 8,000 square-foot ( sf ) training building with classrooms , offices , storage and a training control room . Also to be constructed is a 576-sf covered utility yard , a 304-sf self-contained breathing building , an exterior restroom building , a 5,500-sf , fivestory training tower with Class A burn rooms , a 43-space parking lot , multiple paved areas , landscaping and public art .
According to the Prequalification of Design- Build Entities published by Alameda County ’ s General Services Agency , Local Business Enterprises ( LBEs ) and subcontractors will be sought to assist with electrical , mechanical , plumbing , structural / framing , and fire life / safety work on the facility , which is slated to begin construction in early 2025 . The new construction falls under Alameda County ’ s Project Stabilization Community Benefit Agreement ( PS / CBA ), which covers any County project valued at $ 1 million or more . The agreement promotes efficient construction operations , provides opportunities for small local business enterprises , ensures an adequate supply of skilled craftspeople , and formalizes procedures to avoid labor disputes by making sure that both parties are fully aware of their contractual roles and responsibilities and can be held accountable for breaching any contract terms .
In an interview with the Pleasanton Weekly , Alameda County Fire Chief William McDonald said that the new training site would provide endless possibilities to conduct collaborative exercises with other agencies to keep their personnel prepared to respond to any incidents within their respective communities .
