FROM THE PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR

Welcome to the fall issue of CTAP ’ s Contractor Report ! Varying a little from our past publications , in this and our next edition , we are focusing on women in construction , and in particular those involved in varying ways with the Alameda County Project Stabilization Community Benefits Agreement .
We start with an introduction to the Alameda County Project Stabilization Community Benefits Agreement ( PS / CBA ) and the State of California ’ s Equal Representation in Construction Apprenticeship ( ERiCA ) Grants and their potential impacts on women in construction .
We then look at the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity , which offered the very first and still one of the only all-women cohorts , Women Building the Bay , to prepare women for apprenticeships in the construction trades .
In our profile of Juanita Douglas , Senior Manager , Construction & Labor Relations for Rising Sun ’ s Opportunity Build apprenticeship program ( of which Women Building the Bay is a part ), she shares her in-depth experience and wisdom from over 40 years in the construction industry , as well as unique insights into the challenges and rewards facing women in construction . Lowe Consulting Group ’ s Workforce Development Program Manager , Danielle Motley-Lewis then discusses the benefit of individualized pre-apprenticeship support for those interested in entering the trades .
Finally , we review several outstanding webinars ( all available for viewing online ) presented during “ Women in Construction Week 2023 ,” and get the latest update on Alameda County ’ s Fire Training Center Project .
As a woman-owned company , Merriwether & Williams has promoted the legitimacy and rights of women in the construction industry through our advocacy efforts , participation in trade organizations , and the technical and training services we provide . We encourage women interested in the construction industry to follow their dreams and to make use of all the resources available to support you in your journey !
We hope that all readers feel inspired by this issue and come away with a greater appreciation of the important role of women in construction !
Wishing you and yours a happy , healthy and successful 2024 !
