First Gong Vol. 8: Thrust FIRST GONG 8 THRUST | Page 162
IN THE END - Ajijola Habeeb
Four years ago in the city of Ilorin It all started
The attainment of a B.Sc. degree was what we all wanted
Striving on, neglecting all the hustles that had us depleted
Hanging on to the hope of a future yet undecided
In the end we are forced to ask “Is this truly what we had expected?”
Amidst lectures and rigorous assignments making friends we must
Admittedly for our world not to be lost
Smiles and cheers, falling in love despite the cost
Fights and quarrels, circle of hate and those in whom we find disgust
In the end we still find but very few to trust
Let’s wait and reflect why exactly are we here?
So many with what we strove hard to get are still out there
Obviously, life doesn’t play fair
That alone enough reason for us to sever
In the end we still find yet another reason to persevere
With so many rules we have to abide
Constantly revolting at what we feel taints our pride
With dress codes, our true selves we always have to hide
face Tanke, the thought of which keeps us constantly deprived
In the end whether you miss them or not that you decide
Probitas Doctrina worthy in knowledge and in character
The impact you’ve made to be with us forever
With tears, from you we depart, our Alma Matta
Your memories imprinted on our hearts to be forgotten never
In the end, are we truly Better By Far?
