The Perrin Pirates football program enters a new era as coach Jay Johnson comes over from Alvord to take over for Ben Staggs .

In the time that he has been the coach , Johnson has only seen a sample size of his team due to conflicting schedules , but is excited to see how his whole team looks .
“ I have not been with them long enough since we have had some kids that are working and not been here , so it has been hard ,” Johnson said . “ It is hard to put a thought in until I see what we have , but I know that our kids are going to be excited and that they are going to work hard as well as put the effort in that they need to be successful .
“ From my standpoint , fundamentals will probably be the biggest thing on our menu , then all of the other things are going to fall into place .”
With six-man football , one of the biggest concerns its depth , something Johnson always has in the back of his mind .
“ The other thing … just keeping them healthy , and that is my responsibility , as far as how much work do they get , and how much playing time they get and those kinds of things ,” he said .
Expectations are a part of sports , but when a new head coach joins a program , time is a factor in seeing how the players embrace a new system .
“ I want each individual to get to the point where they are playing at their best level ,” Johnson said . “ My expectations are that they are going to do some fantastic stuff on the field and whereever that lands in terms of wins and loses , that is where it lands . I think
