At least two Bulldogs are expected to compete at the quarterback position in Carter Nairn ( younger brother to last year ’ s starting quarterback ) and CR Tippie . Nairn brings experience having played at quarterback in packages last year , while Tippie filled in as the quarterback during 7-on-7 .

“ I am a big believer in personnel packages for multiple reasons ,” Johnson said . “ For one , it gets guys off the field when they need a breather . For two , it gets more guys involved . So we have a lot of personnel packages that we will rotate guys on both sides of the ball , especially on the offense . Our guys have to know , if you are not a starter in this program , you may play just as much as the starter does . There can ’ t be a huge drop off from one to two .”

Expectation-wise , the best defense is a good offense , controlling and running the ball to give your defense a breather . This year ’ s team is looking about even , Johnson said , compared to last year ’ s 58-42 run-pass ratio . “ Offensively , we will spread it out , but then we can get it to the tight end , third surface , a three back set and pound it out ,” he said . “ We want our offense to be ball controlled and to be balanced , but we also have big play capability .”
